The Busy Mom’s Gift Guide for HIM: Gifts for Every Busy Dad

giftguide

It’s almost Father’s Day!  Don’t you just love it? I do! Except for the gift-giving part. That’s not my fave part of this delightful day dedicated to doting on Dad. I can hoot-n-holler with the best of ’em but I always struggle to find just the right gift for my husband.

This year, I checked in with a few of my favorite guy friends to make a little list of things the special father in your life just might appreciate. Check out the fountain pens, the Star Wars book (it’s not what you’re thinking) and that ever-popular grilling book.  Good dads are a treasure—and even though I love to give a good gift now and then, the best things in life aren’t things.

The Unwired Mom

When Five Minutes Becomes Two Hours

You all have seen me lately talking about being in real life more and online less. My children are growing and moving on right before my very eyes, and I don’t want to miss these years, these days, these moments… because I know I can’t get them back. Well, I’m not the only one. And one mom even wrote a book about it.  I asked her to come share her heart and book with us here so we can all encourage each other in swimming against the current.

The Unwired Mom

“I often wonder what my kids’ memories of me will be.

Will they remember me playing with them, cuddling, reading, cleaning, going places and spending time with their daddy, or will they remember a mom who was on the computer? What will the bulk of their remembrances be?

I want to pay attention, daily, to how I’m spending my time. How I spend my time will add up to my life, and it is just this one earthly life that I have – this one life that my babies will remember and think about one day when they get older. What if someone were to ask them, “What does your mommy love most?” Would they think of their daddy, or themselves, or Jesus, or would they think of my computer? How do they see me spending the majority of my time?

My babes are important to me, and I want them to grow up knowing how to live a real life in the real world. I want them to have strong, lovely memories of me because I know they will be healthier for it, emotionally and spiritually.

How much time I spend online means something to them.

And it means something to me, because I want to really live. I want to live where God has placed me, with the people He’s placed me with. I want to get outside

myself and get uncomfortable and do things that matter. In the real world. For real, hurting people.

And for the people in my care.

So that’s why five minutes matters.

That’s why it’s important to use this gift of time well, because it all adds up to something or nothing. And I want something.”

Homeschooling High Schoolers: FREE Webinar with The Home Scholar!

binzwebinar

Are you thinking about homeschooling a high schooler, or have you decided to but still have some questions?  I’ve been homeschooling for many years—and we have graduated our two oldest daughters, who are now 19 and 21.  My husband and I are always telling parents that homeschooling is the “hardest, best” thing we have ever done with our kids.

It’s worth it—but I couldn’t have done it without people like Lee Binz.

A week or so ago, I hosted Lee Binz’s free webinar on “A Homeschool Parent’s Guide to High School Grades, Credits and Transcripts.”  I’ve heard Lee speak many times on this topic, and she is excellent!   Other parents are benefiting from Lee’s help, too. One mom summed it up this way: “Thank you for all of your time in organizing and blazing a trail for us trying to get through the high school years.  You are like a parent’s  ‘Guidance Counselor.’”

Lee Binz is not only my friend, she’s a real (I love real!) homeschool mom, who has been there and done that and got incredible results.  I know her webinar will educate and encourage you.  I joined Lee for a little while too, 🙂 so I hope you’ll take a few minutes and listen if you missed us the first time around.

 LISTEN TO WEBINAR RECORDING HERE!

Here’s more information from Lee:
Dear Homeschool Parent,

Hi, my name is Lee Binz, The HomeScholar.  Have you noticed how it is becoming more and more “socially acceptable” to homeschool your younger children?  A few years ago, it was not uncommon for parents to feel like sociopaths for denying their children the “academic and social advantages of a public education” (my favorite phrase from the past).

Social acceptance has been slower coming for parents who choose to homeschool through high school.  Change is happening, but there is still a lot of hostility out there from public school parents, special interests and government agencies who are dead set against homeschool parents who choose this path.

My goal is to help parents who are committed to giving their teens the best possible high school education and providing them their best shot at college.  I want to take away any fear and replace it with the knowledge you need to ensure homeschool high school success.

I want to empower and educate you to be the best high school teacher, parent and guidance counselor possible.   That is why I am so excited to be hosting a FREE one-hour educational webinar , exclusively for readers of Heidi St. John.

Home Fires Friday—Leave a Comment and Win!

It’s Home Fires Friday!

thatgirlButton

You know how crazy we are about our husbands here at The Busy Mom—and on Home Fires Friday, we encourage you to keep the home fires burning!

Several years ago, I started encouraging moms to be “That Girl” for their husbands.  It might be as simple as watching football with your man—or it might be making a consistent effort to bring sexual intimacy back into your marriage.

Whatever it is, let’s encourage each other to love our husbands!  It’s always great to see what other moms are doing to nurture their marriages.

Leave a comment telling us what you do to keep the home fires burning and we will choose two winners to receive an eBook version of “The Busy Homeschool Mom’s Guide to Romance!”  You can also leave a prayer request.  I read every comment here—and we have a team of busy moms who pray for your requests.

For a chance to win a bundle of my books, save the image above and share it at your blog or on Facebook.  Be sure to link back in comments so that we see it.

One little reminder: keep your comments clean 🙂 There are children looking over the shoulders of their moms right now.

Love that husband of yours, busy mom! You’re “That Girl!”
