Today we’re in the book of Ephesians, chapter 4, verse 29.  (Ephesians 4:29)

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up, according to their needs, that it might benefit those who listen.”

Wow. That it might benefit those who listen. I had read this verse a couple of times because I am not a very good example, I think, to my kids sometimes!  The Bible says, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouth.”  Well,  I don’t have that down.

“…but only what is helpful” … no, I don’t have that down.  “That it might benefit those who listen.”  As we’re praying today, before we take on the day and before the busyness of the day sets in, let’s take a moment and Continue reading →

I’m in the book of Proverbs today, so if you have a minute, go ahead and open your Bible to the book of Proverbs. It’s funny, I can remember listening to Dr. John Mitchell when I was a student at Multnomah Bible College years ago, and he had a saying. He would say, “Don’t you folks ever read your Bibles?”

It was a running joke at the college, because he was so fast at looking things up!  He had a love for the Word of God and he could quote huge passages of Scripture.  Whenever it took us a while to find something, he would tease us and Continue reading →

God Never Changes

It’s Monday!  Here we go—ready or not!  I hope you had a restful weekend.  We’ve been in a torrential rain storm now for four days straight.  I’m hoping the week gets sunnier.  I’m glad God’s mercies don’t change like the weather.

Lamentations 3:22-23 “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Keeping Unity at Home

QT_4_Peacemakers

Have you ever had tension in your home? Dare I say arguing? Fighting between siblings? You’re not alone.

Ephesians 4:1-3 “As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” Continue reading →

Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about heaven. I’ve been remembering my grandmother.  She used to love to talk to us about the book of Revelation in the Bible.  I know there are a lot of different opinions about the meaning of this special book, but I want to focus on something that has ministered to me over the years, because it reminds me of the hope that we have in Christ. Ephesians 5:15-16 says, “Be very careful then, how you live, not as unwise, but as wise—making the most of every opportunity.”

Good morning moms!  Man it’s hard to get up when it’s pitch dark outside. The days are going by so fast. Summer has turned into fall in the blink of an eye.

I don’t know about you, but for me, the days seem to go by faster and faster as I get older.  Things are moving at the speed of life.  Watching my own daughter getting ready to have her first baby is really forcing me to re-evaluate where I’m spending my time and energy. It’s driving the point home for me that Continue reading →

Letting the Lord Direct Your Steps

I Chronicles 16:11
“Seek the Lord and His strength. Seek His face continually.”

Have you ever been in a place in your life when you felt like you just could not get it all done?  I think most moms have been there at least one time or another in their lives.

Time management from a biblical perspective is not about the challenge to manage time—at the end of the day, it’s not time management, it’s me management, right? The issue is not a lack of discipline usually, either.  The problem is that we can struggle to keep our priorities straight in our hearts and minds.

Today I want to encourage you to make the most of every opportunity. Make a list of the things you need to do and bring them before the Lord.  We read that we need to seek the Lord’s strength continually. What I love about this is that when we do it, when we really seek the Lord’s face continually, we’re not drawing on our own strength, we’re drawing on the Lord’s strength.

The Bible says that God’s strength is made perfect in weakness.  If you feel weak today, be encouraged!  You’re right where God wants you!  You’re right where He can use you the most.

Take a moment today, get on your knees before the Lord and give Him your list. Ask Him to show you His priorities for your day, so that as you make your plans, the Lord can direct your steps.
