Hi Moms!
Well, it’s Monday. I don’t know about you, but I’m finding that the older I get, the faster the time is going! Maybe it’s because there’s so much to do. Life is full when you’ve got kids and parents and work and … well, you know. But how do you find time for yourself? Good question.
Are you struggling to find time to take care of yourself? I bet if you’ve got kids you are!
Check out I Corinthians 6:19-20
Or, do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you who you have from God? You are not your own; you were bought with a price. So, glorify God in your body.”
Every home has it’s quirky little rules. In our house, quirky little rule #246 is: DON’T SCARE THE MAMA. For some reason, I am one of those individuals who does not recover gracefully from a child jumping out at me in the dark or rubber spiders or any of those things. I can think of a thousand scenarios over the last 25 years that have ended up under my “Don’t scare the mama” clause. For the sake of my sanity, any practical jokes involving plastic spiders, pretend injuries, or other potentially scary scenarios are “supposed” to be left at the door.
This rule is really all about me. 🙂 In the interest of allowing me to live to see my grandchildren get married, I’ve asked my kids to help me keep my adrenaline at what might be considered “normal” levels. Sometimes, they forget, and I unwind the victim of a practical joke, but for the most part, they get it.
My point is that there are some things you need to do just for YOU. Take care of yourself. Busy moms who are burned out, stressed out and tired are not really very much good to anyone, particularly not to our husbands. If you’re trying to find “That Girl” again, you might need to take a look at some of the things around you that need to be addressed.
Only you can determine how much rest you need and how much stress you can take. Only you can decide how many activities you can take on before other people around you start to suffer the consequences of an overdone busy mom. If you feel better about yourself as a person, and more confident about the way you look and feel, you’re going to be an easier person to live with, and “That Girl” will be easier to track down.
It’s a biblical principle! I Corinthians 6:19-20 “You’ve been bought with a price—glorify God in your body.”
A Hot Bath and coffee.
Walk the dogs first thing , so I have quiet to talk with The Lord 🙂
45 minutes of walking per day!
Go on a run!
Get the laundry done so I have something clean to wear! Lol!
Wonderful husband is on wake up duty this morning and letting me ease into the day with a bubble bath and some praise music as the sun comes up. Not to brag, but he is amazing and I SO needed this 🙂
You’ve just convinced me to take a sick day off of school. I was determined to drag my self through, but I think we’ll all get along better if we snuggle on the couch and watch a movie instead.
thanks!!! Just the message I needed today.
We’ve competed math and spelling and are heading out on the river to go tubing in a little while! 🙂
I need this rule in my house! I’m implementing it today. My adrenaline needs a break. Thank you, and happy Monday!
🙂 Right?! Moms should have some sort of adrenaline limit. Be blessed, Gabreial!
Coffee.I.Need.More.Coffee. Gotta start school…. Coffee… ;0)
Just what I needed todat.
*today.
What a great reminder. Working out, going shopping, or getting nails done to rejuvenate ourselves to better moms is always a great thing, not only for us but for our family. Thank you for this reminder to give myself permission.
I love getting my eyebrows waxed—$10 makes me feel like a new woman! :_ Welcome to The Busy Mom, Katheryn! Love your blog!
lol… Thank you ! Even as I misspell itbecause of a rough night witha little one and a phone with autocorrect.
After being sick for 3 weeks and trying all sorts of natural options, I am going to get antibiotics today.
I needed to hear this today!
I am exactly the same way: I startle easily. We have a “Don’t scare the Mama” rule, too! 🙂
Very timely for me! Thank you! I just today followed through with a commitment I should not have taken on in this season of my life….and floundered miserably! “Busy moms who are burned out, stressed out and tired are not really very much good to anyone…”, exactly!
Wow. Thank you! Today I took care of myself with a very belated (cancelled several times as childcare fell through) appointment at the dentist. (i’m the only one in the family behind at all!) And I’m going back tomorrow for the cracked tooth fixing, even though my husband is home recovering and on pain pills while he’ll be watching the kids. To say I’m stressed about going and questioning the plan is an understatement! As I sat down tonight for quiet time, exhausted, I half-heartedly thought “I could use some encouragement about tomorrow” and then I read this. Thank you for letting Jesus use you to minister to me. I soooo needed this tonight!
Thank you, Tiffany! Blessings to you <3
Ditto.
I will say a prayer that all goes well, the children will be obedient & occupied while your gone and for things go smoothly at the dentist.
Thank you Heidi and Valerie! I’m home and the kids did fine. I’m probably in more pain than my husband is, but the kids are doing their schoolwork and we will get through! Thanks for the prayers especially!
Good news, Tiffany! 🙂 Keep it up!
Thank you for this encouraging word.
I DO need to take care of me so I can take care of those I love, more so since I am under Dr’s care for a chronic illness. In many ways i am am growing spiritually.
We all need the reminder, don’t we? I think it’s easy for moms to neglect themselves entirely as the kids are growing—and then everyone suffers, including mom. Blessings to you, Valerie!
