It seems as if the left has stolen the arts, but just like the rainbow, the arts were God’s idea. But why do fine arts matter to Christians, why is it critical for our children to study them, and most importantly–why are they a valuable alternative to pop culture entertainment? Sandy Yang is here from Cedarville University to share what art really is and how important it is to study it from a Biblical perspective. I loved this discussion, and I know you will, too!

Dr. Sandra Yang (Sandy) has been a Professor of Music History at Cedarville University in
Southwest Ohio for 15 years. She received a BA in Geography, and an MA and PH.D. in
Historical Musicology from UCLA. She taught both for the History and the Music Departments at
Cal Poly Pomona University in Southern California before coming to Cedarville. She is currently
in the Department of Music and Worship within the School of Arts and Humanities. She recently
co-authored a book with her colleague, Dr. Joshua Kira, entitled Western Humanities and
Christian Thought, which is now used as the principal text for Cedarville’s freshmen level
general education course, Introduction to Humanities.
Dr. Yang (Sandy) has been a Christ-follower for 55 years. She found Christ as a college
student, met her husband of 53 years in college, has raised 5 children and now enjoys spending
time with her 12 grandchildren as often as she can. Because she was saved in college, she has
a particular passion for reaching college students with the gospel. She loves her students and
values the opportunity to disciple students as she teaches various topics in the Arts and
Humanities.
