Seven Minutes

Seven minutes. That’s all the time I had this morning before the kids came in. Yesterday was so full of surprises that I didn’t get to writing until about 8:30pm – so naturally, I overslept this morning. The kids of course, decided that today was a good day to get get up 45 minutes early.  I’m not sure why, but the little ones in our house wake up full of WORDS and the big kids … well it’s hard to get them out of bed, let alone get many words out of them before 8:30 a.m.

Funny that the two-year old is bright eyed and bushy tailed. She has a list of things she wants me to do already.  Starting with … well you know the drill.  “I just needed a half an hour more!”, I thought to myself.  I’m not ready to be a mom yet!

It’s amazing that before 7:00 a.m. I have already had the chance to grouchy and irritable – or full of grace and love.

It’s a good thing God gets it.

“Morning by morning, O Lord, You hear my voice; morning by morning I lay my requests before you … and wait in expectation.” Psalm 5:3

You know, the more I learn about God, the more I think that He is a morning person. 🙂 And I think it’s because God knows that we need His strength, wisdom and joy … first thing in the morning … to make it through any given day.

We just never know what a day will bring. But God does.

Lay your requests before the Lord this morning, busy mom. Even if you only have seven minutes to do it in. Make those first precious minutes count by driving your spiritual “car” through God’s gas station. Fill up with His words. Ask Him for His help.

He’ll give you what you need for today.

He’s good like that.

I can’t believe it, but I’ve finally become a morning person!! Well, let me be clear, I still don’t LOVE getting up so early, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE the quiet time with my husband and after he leaves, the quiet time just for me, before the kids are up..it really makes a difference in starting my day right. Thanks for your encouragement! Now if I could just get the hang of drinking coffee, I might really feel like a morning person 🙂

I was thankfully blessed in the opposite way this morning. I have a little boy who is vomiting, and I was up with him from 6.30am. The rest didn’t appear until after 8am, so I got to cuddle, and snuggle and whisper sweet words to him, in peace. Also, I had the chance to cast my burdens on the Lord, and leave them there.

Now, to work on not being irritable with the others, whilst trying to help a little baby who can’t tell me how he feels. Always something to work on.

    Glad Saylor was ok. x

Your words were a blessing to read this morning. Short, sweet and to the point in the most gracious way. It is so nice to be able to know that I am not the only Mom that feels this way sometimes. I love the way you put that, “make those first precious minutes count by driving your spiritual car through God’s gas station, fill up with His words and ask Him for His help”, even if its just seven minutes in the morning…..I am understanding more and more the importance of this time with him and gleaning bread from His table to help me get through the day….the questions I have been asking myself lately is, do I value my soul/heart like He values it? The decisions I make in my day are they treasures I am storing up for eternity or are they just for the pleasures of today? There is certainly nothing wrong with living in some pleasure for today but my energies need to be spent mostly in the things that will last for eternity….Sure appreciate your sweet nuggests, thanks for sharing them with us.

This meant so much to me! I am in such a similar place in life – bushy-eyed young ones and sleepy-eyed teens (until about 10pm at which point they seem to suddenly have words pouring out everywhere). It seems I often debate between sleep and a few quiet moments: which would be best?

Thank you for your encouraging words today! I’ll treasure those seven minutes…and Psalm 5.
