Listening for the Lord

Had a great turnout in Eugene, Oregon. I love hanging out with homeschool moms – it’s encouraging to see so many parents who have chosen to nurture their children in this way.  Traveling is an added bonus.   It is GORGEOUS out here in the Willamette Valley.  Beautiful blue skies. Huge birds flying overhead. We love it.

Last night we were talking about scheduling  – you know, GETTING THINGS DONE.  But if we get things done and forget why we’re homeschooling – if we have the most amazing schedule down to a science and fail to take advantage of the opportunity to disciple our kids, then we miss out on the best part about homeschooling.

We have a passion to encourage parents to listen for the Lord as they plan their homeschool journey.  Only God knows exactly the plans He has for you – and the best way to find out what that plan is… is to listen.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

If you’re at a crossroad in your homeschool journey, take the time to listen to the Lord.  Then, seek wise counsel before you set your plans into action.

Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed. Proverbs 15:22

It’s so hard to be still, but it is a requirement if we’re going to hear from God in this bustling, busy world. Shhh.  He’s still speaking.

    Heidi,
I host a weekly radio show called The Sociable Homeschooler at Toginet Internet radio.
I wondered if you would be interested in being a guest? It airs live on Fridays at 8am CT and goes to podcast afterwards. The interview can be done from anywhere as long as you have access to a reliable land phone line or skype.
I found your name through your review of Anita Mellott’s devotional book. Anita is going to be a future guest of mine.

SOOO true. I am experiencing that right now! Decided not to make any hard/fast plans for this coming schoolyear(other than very basics)
and waiting and watching to see what GOD has planned for our family!

I just wanted to let you know that this has been an extremely trying year for our family in many ways, but you are a great inspiration to me. Your encouraging words and the 1st chapter of James have been the major resources to keeping me going over the last few months. Thanks for all you do! Your constant reminders that the enemy targets our children by targeting our marriages has probably saved mine. Love in Christ Kat

Heidi, I love reading ur blogs, and today’s was timely!! Feel like I’m at a crossroad with one of my children, and waiting for direction. I love and admire your journey with ur family across the states. I’m from Australia and hve been homeschooling 3 yrs now, and in comparison to the states, there doesn’t seem to be half as much resources here as u do there. There’s certainly a lack of homeschool communities here. The ones I hve seen are quite extreme in their ways, and frankly I’m not sure I want to open our door to that. Just looking for some positive, nurturing families to share our journey with. Oh well, the Lord knows- I’ll b patient lol!! A ministry like urs here wld be dynamite!!! Perhaps u shld consider going international 😉
Anyway- bless you on the journey and I look fwd to ur nxt blog 🙂
    Blessings, Liliane
