Today, I’m going to skip back to the book of Psalms. One of my favorite verses in the Bible is found in Psalm 1:1-3. Check it out:
Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked, or stand in the way that sinners take, or sit in the company of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and he meditates on it day and night. That person is like a tree, planted by streams of water, which yields it’s fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.”
As mothers, isn’t that what we want for our children? That they would be like those trees that are planted by streams of water. The Bible says that this person is a person who walks in step with the Holy Spirit, who delights in the law of the Lord and who meditates on it day and night. In our culture, the word “meditate” has taken on a bad rap. When we think of this word, if often conjures up images of “super Christians” or someone who is involved in New Age or eastern religions.
However, the Bible talks a lot about meditating on the Word. In Psalm 2, we read about delighting in the Word and meditating on it day and night. If you skip over to Joshua 1:8, you’ll read
Don’t let this book of the law depart from your mouth. Meditate on it day and night, so that you might be careful to do everything written in it. Then, you’ll be prosperous and successful.”
These verses were not written for “extra-spiritual” Christians. They were written for you and me. God is telling us that He wants us to be thinking about Him, pondering His goodness and His love—following His laws and rehearsing in our minds what He might want us to do in situations we might find ourselves in. The Bible says that if we’ll do that, we will prosper.
So, busy mom, before you take on your day, take a few moments and meditate on His promises. The Bible says they’re yours to claim.
I am loving this series. I am a little behind but am truly being inspired and encouraged. Thanks so much for taking the time to share your thoughts and wisdom with us. I don’t want them to stop!!
