Spiritual Protection for Your Children by Neil T Anderson – How do parents help their children find their own spiritual freedom, allowing them to grow in independence and strength in Christ? Pete and Sue Vander Hook, a typical Christian pastor and his family, learned the hard way how the enemy can infiltrate a seemingly secure Christian home and wreak havoc on a family. It details their dramatic journey and shows how parents can provide a protective covering for their home. Neil Anderson then provides follow-up steps on how to take authority of your home and secure your family’s spiritual well-being. Spiritual Protection for Your Children also provides “The Steps to Freedom” adapted for use with 0-4 year olds (i.e. how to take authority on behalf of your preschool age child), 5-8 year olds; and 9-12 years olds

Fervent: A Woman’s Battle Plan to Serious, Specific and Strategic Prayer by Priscilla Shirer – You have an enemy . . . and he’s dead set on destroying all you hold dear and keeping you from experiencing abundant life in Christ. What’s more, his approach to disrupting your life and discrediting your faith isn’t general or generic, not a one-size-fits-all. It’s specific. Personalized. Targeted.   So this book is your chance to strike back. With prayer. With a weapon that really works. Each chapter will guide you in crafting prayer strategies that hit the enemy where it hurts, letting him know you’re on to him and that you won’t back down. Because with every new strategy you build, you’re turning the fiercest battles of life into precise strikes against him and his handiwork, each one infused with the power of God’s Spirit.

Dare to Be A Daniel – Talking to Your Kids About Standing for the Lord – This is startlingly new territory for parents: explaining why a man is being celebrated as a woman on the cover of a magazine is not something we’re used to talking about. Here’s the thing: If we don’t set a place for the truth of Scripture at the table of our children’s hearts, the world will set out a feast all it’s own.

Can there be “Pro-Choice” Christians? – Given the disturbing and heartbreaking recent videos which expose Planned Parenthood for the evil that it is committing, I urge you to contact your state representative and ask them to join the movement to defund this murderous organization. In the United States, a half a billion tax dollars go to fund this genocide each year.  We must speak for those who cannot speak for themselves…

When the Experts are Wrong – Jay and I had been told that it was more than 60% likely that she had Down Syndrome. It looked as if she had a small hole in her heart. Her measurements were “off.”  We were sent to a genetic counselor.  Our options were laid out clearly: Abortion or “Take a Chance.”  Amniocentesis was not something we were interested in. Abortion was…

A Quiet Exile – And an American Genocide – Have you noticed that Christians have been relegated to the “little kids” table where most issues today are concerned? It’s like it’s Thanksgiving and we’re sitting at card tables in the spare bedroom while the grown-up, more “enlightened” people sit around the big table—casually deciding the future of our nation.  Yes, Christians see what is happening, but many are afraid to say who we are and what we believe…

Verses Mentioned

Psalm 139: 14-16 – I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.  My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.

Jeremiah 1:5 – Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.

Proverbs 24:11-12  – Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter.  If you say, “Behold, we did not know this,” does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?  Does not he who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will he not repay man according to his work?

It’s not bad to come to the end of our rope, because at the end of our rope we find our Savior. – Durenda Wilson, The Busy Mom Podcast

More from The Busy Mom:

Teach me to Pray – A couple minute podcast and short post where Heidi St. John reminds us that God wants to talk to us in prayer. It’s vital to live a thriving, grounded and humble life.

Verses mentioned in podcast:

1 John 5:14 This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.

Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

Matthew 21:21-22  And Jesus answered and said to them, “Truly I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ it will happen. “And all things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”

Acts 9:40 But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up.

Philippians 4: 6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

A Praying Life – Author Paul Miller shares his insights and conclusions about how to connect the broken pieces of your life and allow prayer—even poorly delivered—to fill the gaps with meaning and substance.  Miller’s down-to-earth approach and practical nature will help you see that your relationship with God can grow and your communication with Him can get better.  Parents will find Miller’s family-life experiences especially helpful.

Lord, Teach Us To Pray –

Since this book was published over a century ago, countless readers have learned through its pages that no one can teach prayer better than Jesus Christ himself. This enduring classic will transform your prayers and life as you open your heart to the prayer-lessons Jesus gave.
“The Father waits to hear every prayer of faith. He wants to give us whatever we ask for in Jesus’ name. If there is one thing I think the Church needs to learn, it is that God intends prayer to have an answer, and that we have not yet fully conceived of what God will do for us if we believe that our prayers will be heard. God hears prayer.”

The Grand Paradox: The Messiness of Life, he Mystery of God and The Necessity of Faith –

The life of Christian faith is and always has been a beautifully awkward reality. Following Jesus is done—can only be done—in the messiness of this world into which we were all born. Yet many Christians expect the walk of faith to be easier, neater, and relatively devoid of hassles.

So perhaps it’s time for a frank conversation about the true nature of Christian faith. Maybe there are many desperately in need of a clear dialogue about how—despite living in a turbulent, chaotic world—our greatest joy is found in our pursuit of God.

In The Grand Paradox, Ken Wytsma seeks to help readers understand that although God can be mysterious, He is in no way absent.

Homeschooling: Why We Chose It

why we homeschoolMore from The Busy Mom Blog:

3 Reasons NOT to Homeschool, and Why We Decided to Give it a Try – There’s much more on my mind than whether or not parents should homeschool their kids. I think there are some very compelling reasons for Jesus followers to NOT take on the responsibility and commitment of homeschooling.

Homeschooling Held Hostage – “We’ve gone from a few brave moms who, without access to mainstream “curriculum”, managed to give their children an excellent education—but we’ve forgotten what made it excellent. It was excellent because these moms had a vision for homeschooling—they weren’t trying to re-create school at home. They were simply being obedient to the One who had called them to be different. They knew that if He had called them, He would equip them.”

What is the Goal of Education? – “It is a reminder that it matters who teaches your children. You see, discipleship is the goal of education. Christian homeschooling should not only be about teaching the ABC’s. Yes, academics are an essential component in homeschooling, but the foundation and power of homeschooling is found in the quiet resolve of two parents who are committed to teach their children to be fully devoted, mature followers of Jesus Christ.”
