Courageous Leadership

cour•age kûr′ĭj, kŭr′-

n. The state or quality of mind or spirit that enables one to face danger or fear with confidence and resolution; bravery.

Has God called you to leadership? If so, one thing will certainly be required: courage. Throughout the Bible, we see God instructing His leaders to lead with courage. Courage helps leaders make wise decisions—even when they are unpopular. It takes courage to make the hard decisions, courage to deal with problems honestly, and courage to listen with an open heart and mind to voices that are critical of your leadership.  We'll talk about how to cultivate courage and inspire courageous living from others within your organization.

**NOTE** The St. Johns have been leading ministries both in and out of the church for over thirty years, and are the founders and executive directors of Firmly Planted Family, a non-profit ministry that is dedicated to strengthening and encouraging today's Christian family. They also direct the Firmly Planted Homeschool Resource Center in Vancouver, WA

*Cultivating a Faith That Speaks

In a time when voices of faith are being silenced, Christians have a wonderful opportunity. Psalm 107:2 says, “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.” It’s God’s desire that as His children, we would engage every corner of the culture—stepping out in faith, away from the comfort of our churches and bringing the hope of Jesus to a generation in moral, emotional and spiritual crisis. Listen as Heidi St. John shares three things that you can do right now to give feet and a voice to your faith! You’ll leave encouraged and inspired!  This is a preview session from Heidi's Women's Conference, "Faith That Speaks." You can bring the entire conference to you area! *Lessons from Esther: Peace in Times of Fear

In stressful situations, can you prayerfully wait for God's direction and timing? Today we are surrounded by a culture that is opposed to the principles of God's word. It's easy to succumb to fear: "What if I miss something?" "I know I'm supposed to do this... but WHAT IF I ruin my child?" "How can I raise all my children?" "What will my own parents say?" Moms grapple with these and many other fear-based questions, especially when we take a stand for how we are raising our children. But God says that as we trust in Him, HE directs our path, and He gives strength to the weary, wisdom when we ask for it, joy in times of stress and peace in times of fear.
Esther faced what seemed like an impossible circumstance, too. It is impossible to guess what might have happened to the Hebrew nation had there been no Esther. Except for her, Jerusalem might never have been rebuilt, and there might have been a different story to tell all future ages. This beautiful Jewish girl of long ago, though she herself may not have known it, played her part in paving the way for the coming of the Savior. And just as Esther has a part to play, so you have an important role in shaping the hearts and minds of a future generation. Come and be encouraged as Heidi reminds you about what is most important during the child rearing years: following the Lord wherever He leads - and modeling that faith for your children. Because where God guides - he also provides. Peace in times of fear.

Let’s Talk! A Q&A with Heidi St. John

Got questions? Here’s your chance to ask Heidi St. John, veteran homeschool mom and mother of seven (including four graduates!) anything you want! Questions will be submitted during the first 10 minutes and answered during the following 40 minutes.

*Light a Thousand Fires

Right place. Right time. Right team. We’re raising a generation of Daniels as America becomes a modern Babylon. The Lord has set us apart for such a time as this and He has a purpose for each of us and each of our children. Heidi St John lays out the rules of engagement for winning the culture war that seeks to destroy your children’s future and offers encouragement for the days we are living in. Listen. Learn. Leave with purpose and confidence.

*Like Arrows in the Hands of a Warrior

God says that our children have been given to us like “arrows in the hands of a warrior.” The question is, do we see ourselves as warriors? Do we recognize the battle we are in? Are we passive or purposeful in the spiritual training of our kids?  God desires that we train and sharpen our “arrows” so that they will be ready to fly when the time is right.  Join Heidi St. John as she offers personal insight and practical application on your role as parents.

*Love What God Loves: Why Every Christ-follower Should Stand for Life

"Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed." Proverbs 31:8 NLT

With perhaps the exception of homosexuality and gay marriage, no other issue stirs the heart people more than abortion. Abortion has become one of the most persistently debated topics in America.  Few people do not have an opinion concerning abortion, but the question for the Church is an urgent one: can we claim to follow Christ and be pro-choirce?

The question is, where God wants us to stand on this issue? In this presentation, Heidi will take audiences to the Bible, where God's heart for the unborn can be clearly seen.  The Body of Christ has allowed the world, instead of the Bible, determine how it talks about issues. This session takes a deep-dive into the issue abortion and challenges attendees to love both the mother and her unborn child—because that's what God does. He loves them both.
If time allows, Heidi will take questions at the end of this session.

Men and Women: Viva la Difference!

We were created to complement each other! And while the world tries to blur the lines between men and women, the St. Johns make the case for why our differences make marriage like no other relationship on earth. If you want to enjoy your spouse even more than you already do—this is the workshop for you. Jay and Heidi will share secrets of their nearly 35-year romance and offer encouragement that will help your marriage go the distance in every aspect of married life.

Most parents today see big problems on the horizon but are not sure how to make a difference in the battle. Join Heidi St. John as she teaches 5 ways you can get off the sidelines and onto the frontlines. Learn to engage and encourage others to do the same.

Off the Bench: Overcoming Fear and Finding Your Voice

Fear. It’s a driving force in the culture today—and yet—God’s Word teaches us that fear is a spirit. “God did not give us a spirit of fear,” so why are we so afraid? For most of her life, Heidi St. John struggled with fear and anxiety on a daily basis. In this hour-long session, she’ll share her story of finding her God-given voice and explain how our weaknesses can be used for God’s glory. From fears about homeschooling to fears about the culture, God says, “I am on the throne! Do not fear!”

*The Power of Godly Influence and the Legacy It Leaves

Did you know that you  have influence? You do! The question is, what you are doing with the influence that God has given you? You have influence with your children, your friends, family, co-workers.  What  are you doing with it?   How is your faith influencing those around you? In this powerful presentation, Heidi will share six character traits of leaders who have successfully navigated the ups and downs of leadership and used their influence to make a difference in the lives of those around them. Your legacy is already being built. What will it be?

Prayers for the Battlefield

Are you weary? Today’s parents are up against a lot. We’re shepherding children in a time when the war for their hearts and minds has reached a fever-pitch. And yes—the battle is real—but so is our God! Come spend an hour with mother of seven, Heidi St. John as she offers hope and teaches parents how to pray for their kids at every stage development. We’ll get real about the struggle, but we won’t focus on it. You’re raising a special generation of warriors! Don’t give up—you were born for this!

Sex, Lies and Childhood: How You Can Identify and Inoculate Your Kids (and yourself!) Against the Biggest Lies of Woke Culture

God’s Word teaches us that the primary job of parents is to raise children who are equipped, both spiritually and mentally for the “real world.” Our assignment? To prepare our kids to stand against “the schemes of the devil.” Trouble is—the language of woke culture often gets right by busy parents. Who has time to learn all the new words and phrases that seem to be created every other week? If you’re struggling to keep up, join Heidi St. John as she equips you to easily identify the language of the left and teach your own children to do the same.

Strong Roots - Strong Faith

Our family is only as strong as our marriage. And our marriage is only as strong as our faith. Every aspect of modern life conspires to destroy faith, tear apart marriages and scatter families. But it all begins with faith. Faith is more than reading the latest Christian bestseller. It's more than attending the fastest growing church in town. It's a simple, ancient practice born out of simple truths and eternal wisdom. Heidi St John will help you put down the deep faith roots and build the strong faith foundations needed to anchor your family in this rapidly changing world. With refreshingly honest insights and a rich sense of humor, Heidi will point you back to Jesus, the One and Only as you laugh and cry together. As Heidi draws you back toward the "things of first importance" you'll find your faith taking root once more as you dig in and anchor the marriage, family and children that you cherish.

Strong Roots - Strong Families

Arguably the most profound change in America in the past 50 years has been the deconstruction of the family unit. The foundational building block of 4000 years of world culture and 250 years of American society has been undermined, under appreciated and under attack since the 1960's. Learn how to put down the kind of strong roots that will help you become an "intentional arborist" as you nurture the strong family that you desire-and that your children need. Learn how you can nurture nurture what's important and learn to ignore the flurry of cultural foolishness that we all-too-often mistake for what's really important.

Strong Roots - Strong Marriage

Once regarded as the unshakable foundation of family life and values throughout western culture, marriage is under attack like never before. Both spiritual attack and cultural pressures are causing more and more marriages to end in divorce. The resulting fall out among children of divorce is heartbreaking. Heidi St John brings a solid word of encouragement wrapped in humor and refreshing transparency as she points husbands and wives toward the solid eternal truths found in God's Word that can help you become an "intentional arborist," nurturing the strong marriage that your family depends on. You'll learn how to put down strong roots as you focus on the "things of first importance" found in the Bible.

If homeschooling up til now feels more like drudgery than delight, or if the thought of homeschooling makes your knees shake and your palms sweat, this is the workshop for you! Perhaps you've been hearing from "experts" that view homeschooling as just another form of education, like any other. Public schools think that way, but homeschooling is nothing like the school system. It's just the opposite. Learning at home is an adventure, a journey, a new lifestyle. Join veteran homeschool mom of seven (including one homeschool graduate!) Heidi St.John as she talks about the three things you've got to know as a new homeschooler that will set you on a track for success and enjoyment with your children.

Take it in stride that you will bumble and stumble, stick your foot in it, take wrong turns, backtrack, start again, and again . . . . and your child will be just fine. Come and bring a friend for a dose of information and encouragement. You can do it!

Help and Hope for the Overwhelmed Mom

Parenting. It’s exhausting and exhilarating. Frustrating and fascinating. Like all things that are God-breathed, it’s a Kingdom building exercise. It’s a masterful strategy, this idea of using all night feedings and miscarriage and labor and teenagers (see how teens and labor go hand in hand?) and even homeschooling to teach us to trust the heart the Father. But that’s exactly what God wants you to learn to do. Join Heidi St. John for an hour of encouragement and inspiration that will lift you up and remind you of the WHY of homeschooling.

*Homeschooling Held Hostage

In the past twenty years, we’ve seen a lot of changes in the homeschool community. There is much more pressure being put on homeschoolers to excel academically. We’ve gone from a few brave moms who, without access to mainstream “curriculum”, managed to give their children an excellent education—but we’ve forgotten what made it excellent.
It was excellent because these moms had a vision for homeschooling—they weren’t trying to re-create school at home. They were simply being obedient to the One who had called them to be different. They knew that if He had called them, He would equip them. And they were right.
If you’re struggling to find joy in your calling as a homeschooling parent, if you’re looking for more LIFE in your homeschool, this is one workshop you won’t want to miss. join Heidi as she talks about her journey away from curriculum-driven, workbook based homeschooling and into delight-directed learning. What she learned will bless and inspire you.

Homeschool in Freedom and Find Joy

Have you ever found yourself drawn to “formulaic” parenting? If your homeschool has lost it’s JOY, or if you are struggling to find time to disciple your children, in the midst of homeschooling, this session is for you. Listen in as Heidi shares three pitfalls of modern homeschooling and offer ways to guard against them and flourish—from diapers to diplomas!

I Want to QUIT Homeschooling! (But before you do, hear this!)

Heidi’s hunch is that you don’t need to quit… you need to see things new; to have fresh perspective and renewed vision. And maybe you need chocolate. That too. Come join Heidi for an hour of encouragement and chocolate. You’ll be glad you did!

Multi-Level Teaching

Toddlers, Tweens and Teens, OH MY!
Do you have a houseful? Are you planning on having a houseful? If so, then this is a great workshop for YOU! Heidi and Jay St. John are the homeschooling parents of seven perfect, never messy, always obedient very sweet, usually tidy, generally obedient, always energetic, very curious, children. They have homeschooled all the way through high school.
One of the most challenging aspects of homeschooling a houseful is figuring out how to teach them all while finding time to manage the rest of your day! Moms are always wondering if they are "doing enough" and finding the time to teach individual subjects, well, individually... can be overwhelming.
In this workshop, Heidi will share seven secrets of multi-level teaching that will empower, encourage and enlighten you! If you've got a houseful, then you've got your hands full! Let's laugh together, and rediscover the JOY of homeschooling with a full heart AND a full house!

*R.E.A.L. L.I.F.E. Homeschooling

Let's face it. Homeschooling is challenging. Sometimes it can feel like a major accomplishment just to take a shower and get the breakfast dishes cleaned up before dinner! Most homeschool moms feel the pressure of providing their children with a solid academic foundation ~ but there's so much more to homeschooling than academics, isn't there? The truth is that the greatest accomplishment of your homeschooling is to nurture your children in the ways of the One who made them.
REAL LIFE Homeschooling is about getting real when it comes to the issues that are unique to homeschooling families ~ but more important than that, it's about being reminded why we are homeschooling in the first place. It's about keeping our eyes on the goal of discipling our children. If you have been or are on the edge of homeschool burnout, if you are wondering why God has called you on this homeschooling journey, or if you just need some honest, real encouragement, this is the one homeschool workshop you can't afford to miss out on!
