It is not a new idea that reading to children is one of the best things you can do to stimulate their brains, grow their imaginations, build family memories, and inspire a love of a good story. You guys have been asking for my family’s favorite read alouds. There are really a ton to choose from, and there’s no way I could include them all here, but this is a list that will get you started!
Hands down, our favorite hero stories are these from YWAM Publishing. We fondly call them our “missionary stories,” and we spent years reading through these. Gladys Aylward and George Mueller are my kids’ favorites, if you need a couple to start with.
Most of these can be read to a variety of ages. Pick a book that’s great for your oldest, and the youngers can listen along while they have an activity to occupy their hands! One tip: read at mealtime. You have a captive audience!

There are many times that I have been searching for a new book to read with the kids or a story that will highlight a certain character quality or a hero. These are three excellent reference books full of great books to read with your kids. Keep these on hand so you can always find quality literature ideas, especially as our culture tries to redefine what makes a “good” book.
