  1. Thank you so much for this. I would love to hear more about your background. I too grew up with a cold, emotionally absent father and an alcoholic mother. I determined when I was little that things would be different for my own family. I soon found that the difference is Jesus, and have been blessed with an amazing husband who feels the same way about family that I do. We are raising our 2 and 4 year old girls very differently from our parents.

Okay, honesty time- a huge part of what has inspired me to be better is moms like you- 7 kids, homeschooling- that’s my dream. But I feel like y background holds me back. I have severe anxiety as a result of the way I grew up (and also genetically), and m 4 year old is also very anxious. I’m having such a hard time with this mom thing that I want to stop having kids and send her to public school so I can get a break. So my question is- how did you do it? How did you keep going? I look at my Christian mom friends and wish I could be like them- just keep having kids, and stay calm, and actually want to be around them. I feel like I’m the only one who just can’t handle motherhood.

Sorry, I know this is such a rambling cry for help- thank you if you read this. I just wanted to say thank you for inspiring me through your blog.

    1. Oh, Erin, my heart aches for you. I am praying for you and I think it would benefit you and your family if you could find a friend who could meet with you and pray regularly with you for strength, wisdom, and guidance in your mothering/marriage journey. Begin to pray for this person and see who God brings along your path. Open yourself to having people in your church over for family dinners, and play dates. I just lifted you to the Father.

    2. Dear Erin, I just want to encourage you to trust Jesus to fulfill that dream He placed in your heart….. 7 kids, homeschooling (as you wrote). Keep pursuing Jesus with all your heart and He will bring you to that place of peace and victory over your anxiety. “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You because he trusts in You.” Isaiah 26:3 At one time I felt overwhelmed with homeschooling and wanted to quit. It was also my dream to have 7 children and homeschool. But I felt like such a failure.I wrote a short blog on this. http://beneaththeoaks.us/blog/ Now, after 8 children (I got a bonus!) and seeing God’s faithfulness, I am SO thankful that I continued. He will be faithful to help you as you pursue Him. I will be praying for you.
