  34. Renita says:

I recommend your books and site because you are real. Too often we as moms, homeschoolers, wives, etc. only show they good side or the side where we have it all together. We hurt one another in our attempt to appear perfect. I love that you lay it out there for all of us to see and feel comfort that we are not alone. :)

  35. Michelle says:

I first saw Heidi St. John last year at the NCHE conference in WS. My husband and I attended “Homeschooling High Schoolers, YES YOU CAN” and “The 10 Marriage Myths that will Steal Your Joy.” Heidi is an awesome and vibrant speaker, no time to snooze in her sessions. She is the kind of speaker, you could sit & listen longer. I also love that she’s so bold & honest in her stance about how important it is to have a strong marriage & how it should be a priority. This is just a few reasons why I LOVE Heidi and would recommend her! I also love her encouraging posts on FB & share them with all my friends, whether they homeschool or not.

  36. Elizabeth says:

As someone who started out as a secular homeschooler, finding your blog was a turning point for me. I have felt supported by this online community as my reasons for continuing to homeschool have changed and are more to do with God and less to do with the SAT’s each day. I tell others about your blog in hopes they will be inspired as well.

  37. The constant reminder of the real reason why I press on!

  38. Laurie E says:

Great words for anyone new to homeschooling or if they’ve been at it a long time. Down to earth advice, laughs, help, encouragement,… Perfect to boost anyone’s day! Thank you!

I am so encouraged and inspired by TBHM. Our children are not of school age yet, but homeschooling has already been on my heart. A friend referred me to TBHM and I’m so thankful. I love all of the posts and they are really a highlight for me when I’m on facebook now. I also really enjoy the blog, too. I honestly look up to Heidi as a role model and mentor now. I’ve learned so much about homeschooling, being a wife, and a mother. Thanks so much!

  50. Sara says:

I find your blog very encouraging. You are a “real” mom just like me, with daily struggles that wants to be the best wife and mom you can be. I have appreciated your honesty and insight into juggling the many hats a homeschool mom wears. I am a newer follower and haven’t read any of your books yet, but I’m looking forward to doing so.

  51. April Bowers says:

I think it should be recommended because it is soooo encouraging about real-life homeschool issues. It also helps you to see that you are NOT alone on this homeschooling journey, that there are many moms out there dealing with the same types of things you are. More importantly I would recommend it because I believe it is God-honoring. I think Heidi listens to God and passes along her heart to all of us. Thank you so much! I look forward to reading your posts everyday!

  52. Debra G says:

I recommend your page because I love the REAL, down-to-earth advice and encouragement I see. You came to our homeschool convention last summer, and I finally walked away feeling normal and empowered, rather than inadequate and overwhelmed. I’ve gone to 11 conventions over the years.

  53. Jenni says:

I love the real day-in-the-life stories. They’re an encouragement to me as a 2nd year hs-er (after kids in private school). That every day isn’t the picture perfect day. Thanks!

  54. Elizabeth W.14 says:

I recommend your page because you have changed my life for the better. I never would have been this happy homeschooling. I have a wiggly little 5 year old boy and I KNOW we would both be suffering if it wasn’t for your encouragement to enjoy this time learning and playing together, rather than beating him over the head with school books like I wanted to. Character before Curriculum is my new motto and I think I have a pretty fantastic little boy because of it! I will always be indebted to you!

  55. Suzanne says:

Busy Mom homeschool is such a encouragement and so uplifting! I look forward to it each day and love to share it with my other busy homeschool moms!!

  56. Kerri says:

Because it changed how we run our homeschool! I took a step back after hearing you at AFHE and my husband and I prayed and we changed a bunch of stuff right before school started. It’s been a great year! The kids are learning and yet we are more relaxed. It got me back to what I loved about homeschooling and gave me the courage to implement. God used you in our lives to refocus our homeschool.
    Thank you

  57. Angie says:

Thank you!

A message I think every homeschool mom needs!

  69. malissa says:

i tell my friends and family because your blog and books have been so inspiring to me as a mother of four. i can relate to everything you talk about in your books and has really opened my eyes to my husband to our kids to our house hold because of you i have decided to home school our four children ages 4, 3,2, and 10 months. i have had others talk to me about home schooling and i had always told them there was no way that i could home school not with all my children being so close in age. but after reading your books and reading your blog. you showed me that i can do it that with god i can. for what could be against me if god is with me. so i thank you i start this coming year with my daughter in kindergarden. we have set up a class room in our dinning room and got my fathers world. i can’t wait to start teaching her. thank you and god bless.

Haha….I recommend your blog and facebook page because when I read what you write I feel normal! I know that may sound silly. I think that a lot of homeschoolers think that only they…have a messy house, don’t always get school done the way they “should”, etc….you know the lies that are whispered in our ears. I love that you make me feel normal! =)
    Amanda Gillenwater

You remind me to stay grounded in God and His Word. You also have such good practical advice – crock pot recipes, organization tips, etc. I love your encouragement on keeping my husband as my main priority. I bought your book, “The Busy Homeschool Mom’s Guide to Romance”, and read it as a Christmas present for my husband. It has been a true blessing. I love your reminders about keeping my hubby a priority each week. We all need that important reminder each week; it is so hard to let the busyness of homeschooling get in the way.

Sometimes I feel like we are twins separated at birth, only you’re much smarter and more savvy than I. In any case, your posts bless me over and over and I wish you the best! I was wondering if you ever write guest posts for other blogs? I’m a newbie blogger and blog about homeschooling, backyard chickens, cooking, gardening, and the like. I’d love it if you’d have time to do a guest post for me. I’d be honored, in fact.

  95. Olivia says:

Encouragement from the heart! And as a new homeschool mom with an almost 5 year old, a 3 year old, and one due in 3 weeks, I appreciate the reminders to let them play when they are so young rather than pushing heavy duty curriculum! :)

  96. Corene says:

I heard a quote once and found it to be true. “No one will believe you know the answer but they will believe that you know someone who does”. I recommend the site because it has great information and encouragement, not just for homeschooling but for marriage too.

  114. You’ve really been an encouragement to me in my struggle to balance homeschooling and character development, which are not mutually exclusive and character is way more important than the academics.

I still have a hard time putting my husband before my kids. Growing up in a broken family where I don’t feel like kids were a priority at all (drugs and friends came before kids), it’s hard for me to not make my kids a priority. You do well in helping to show the priority as God, then spouse, then children, everything else after.

So, you’re an inspiration in multiple areas of my life. Those are the reasons I share you with others. The struggles I have are not just ones I have, but are very common. I’d like to hog you and keep you all to myself, but your ministry does much better when shared. :)

  115. Carrie says:

I meet a lot of people who, like myself, are considering the homeschooling option. The Busy Homeschool Mom offers a lot of insight and information not just to those who already homeschool their children, but those who are considering it. It wasn’t until I started going through the website that I felt like I really could try homeschooling. With all of the ideas, tips, inspiration, and reminders that we are only human, I feel confidant that I can do it. I am now planning on starting my daughters preschool year at home.

  116. Wendi says:

I love the Busy Homeschool Mom because every day there’s a word of encouragement, or a helpful hint, or just a funny something that helps me in my daily walk as a homeschooling mom. Thank you for helping all of us in our most important job as mother and teacher:)

  117. Jennell Marks says:

Thank you for the smiles, recipes to help with dinner on overwhelming days, and all around encouragement!

  118. Melissa Martin says:

I absolutely love your page. It seems like on the days that I’m dragging, it’s such an encouragement. On the days that I need a giggle, you post something awesome (and cute and clean!). Facebook is a world full of awful nasty things sometimes (even among Christians, unfortunately), and it’s great to know that if you post something that shows up in my newsfeed, and my kiddos happen to walk by, they aren’t going to see anything filthy. Just an awesome, encouraging note, from one busy homeschool mom to many others :) . Keep it up!

  119. Robyn S. says:

I recommend you because you are encouraging to such a broad range of moms teaching their kids. I’m only starting, and was homeschooled myself K-12, but I have found encouragement in your posts. I also heard you speak at a conference about notebooking, and it helped me get an idea of how I want to begin with my littles. :)

  120. Nicole K says:

After hearing you speak on FamilyLife Today I realized you were speaking on where I was in life presently. I was so encouraged and continue to be by the daily post through Facebook. I recommend The Busy Homeschool Mom for a couple of reasons but the main one would be the honesty, truth and encouragement that is given on a daily basis.

  121. Jenniferj says:

It’s refreshing to have a godly voice reminding me of the right perspective – God, husband, then children. Your words are biblical, practical, and encouraging. It’s obvious you take your calling as wife, mother, and keeper of the home with joy and reading your posts help me to push all the other “stuff” aside and get back to the truth – its a high calling and privledge, do it to bring glory to God – the One who gave you this family. All for His glory! :)

  122. Kim says:

I have found such support here. I live in a rural area where there aren’t a lot of options for homeschool support groups/coops. So I am especially glad to have found your blog and facebook page. They are daily encouragement to me as they remind me that I am not alone; that my feelings are normal and that my children are normal and will not only survive the homeschooling process but very likely thrive in it (they are after only a few months). Since finding your blog & facebook page I have relaxed a lot because it seems that you have just the right thing to say when I need to hear it. If I didn’t know any better I’d think you had a hidden camera in my house because your timing is so perfect… but I realize that’s just the way God works. Thank you for the support and encouragement.

  123. Bridget says:

I love how I know the advice given has been tried and proven. It’s not just someone suggesting something. It’s other families who have gone through or are going through the same things and are offering advice. THAT is why I recommend it!! When I’m overwhelmed I always find something that encourages me here.

  124. Carla says:

I like all the advice you give. It has really helped me in so many ways with my homeschooling.

  125. Brookej says:

You remind me that I’m not crazy, I’m not terrible, and I’m not alone!

  126. Tawnda says:

I recommend you to all moms whether homeschooling or not because of your humorous posts/shares and because of the awesome encouragement you give.

  127. Katie says:

As a military wife and homeschooling mom I often feel isoalted because I am usually the “new person in town” and I have my hands full teaching my little ones through the day. It is a challenge to find the time to really connect outside of homeschool co-ops. Your blog is like a hug, a bit of camaraderie, somewhere I can check in and see that I’m really doing all right and I’m not alone out here. And, it makes me laugh. Thanks for all you do! =D

  128. Kellie says:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE how encouraging every post is! Straightforward and always exactly what I needed to hear. Your blog gives me both hope and motivation.

  129. Chandra Kerr says:

Love your concepts and heard you at NCHE Conference. Felt very encouraged that I can do all things through Christ! Blessings and congratulations on the grandbaby!

  130. Amy S. says:

You remind me that my feelings of insecurity, incompetence, and insanity are normal, and they don’t make me a bad mom.

  131. Rikki says:

Thank you for your blog. You are so encouraging.

  132. Melissa says:

I started homeschooling this year because we wanted to have the freedom to do what WE wanted on my husband’s days off instead of having to wait for the weekends when my now 2nd grader was off. Homeschooling quickly became more time consuming than public school was because I felt I had to do every good teaching idea I came across. Your posts are a great reminder to make time to have fun together, and that family time is just as important, if not more so, than teaching the curriculum that I’ve piled on our day. My husband thanks you!

  133. Becca Hill says:

By God’s Grace I was directed to your website. I have three adopted daughters and feel like I can barely keep my head above water at times with several of their issues. It was during a very difficult and trying time that I found your site and I am forever grateful. I quickly realized that I’m not the only one out there trying to bring up godly little women and that stressing out over curriculum is NOT what its about. I am so blessed by your posts and your constant encouragement. I highly recommend your blog and FB page to any new or seasoned homeschool mama. Thank you for all you do and for providing such a great resource to all of us!!!

  134. Cindi says:

I always say that it takes a village to raise a child – that is why I offer other sources for my friends to learn from when they question me on homeschooling. No better source to send them to than you! Thank you for taking time to keep us encouraged, motivated, educated and laughing!

  135. Rebecca says:

This is our 3rd year homeschooling. Since starting to homeschool, we have added two new kids to our family. It is challenging having an infant, a toddler, and 4 school age kids. I tell my husband every day what an encouragement your blog is to me. I especially loved your post about different seasons. I realized that if we have a bad day, bad week, even a bad year…it isn’t the end of the world. It is wonderful to hear that I am not alone in my overwhelmed, messy, sometimes (well many times) not perfect school day, etc. Thank you so much for your words of encouragement & also for your challenges. You help this mom stay sane and keeps me pressing forward for the long term goals.

  136. Amy says:

You encourage me daily that I can do this, I am not alone in my struggles, and help keep me focused where I need to be. You are real and to the point and I appreciate and need that!

  137. Christina D. says:

Because in between cooking, school, cleaning, school, laundry, school, soccer, school, piano/guitar, school, and being a wife, I like to know that I am not the only one who loves every second of the madness. :)

  138. Nana says:

Your blog is real. You describe the homeschooling journey to a tee! You clearly understand the ups and downs, the happy days and the days of drudgery. This honest realness refreshes my heart as I read your Biblical encouragements and practical tips! You’re not putting on a show nor pretending to have it all together. You’re one of us, and that’s significant! Thanks for investing your time and energy into helping us all become more like Jesus in this journey together.

  139. BethAnn Y says:

I am so glad that I found you! With a child in each age and stage (1yr,4,9,14) you help me keep my sanity and my sense of humor! You inspire me to be better and yet not be too hard on myself!! Thank you!

  140. Gail says:

Because sometimes I think you are speaking right to me! I appreciate real,
Genuine, and of course, funny bloggers! You are a source of encouragement for me! I hope to share that with others!

  141. Korri Ray says:

I recommend your fb page to my homeschooling friends because you keep things real. You are very down to earth and relatable, and also funny. I love your encouraging words and how you get me motivated.

  142. Wendy says:

How can I tell you all that you’ve done for me. Reminded me to think about dinner. Helped me to realize I am one woman. In being one woman, to my family I am very important and loved even if everyone is crying and no one has said anything to me lately. Mostly you’ve shown me it’s ok to laugh and cry, it’s ok not to be perfect and my children will love me even if we don’t have great days. You’ve empowered me, lifted me, and well, I can’t thank you enough. <3

  143. Sandra in Phx says:

I love the real life inspiration. I like that I can count on Heidi telling the truth and being real about it~that sometimes we yell at our kids when we shouldn’t, how cereal for dinner won’t kill us, and how we need to nurture our relationship with our husband FIRST.

  144. Juli Smith says:

I appreciate the encouragement as a homeschooling mom, especially the Christian base and humor used in the posts. Thanks for this opportunity to win edifying materials! God Bless!

  145. Anna A says:

I love your blog! I am a stay at home, home schooling mom to a 6 year old, 4 year old, 2 year old and 6 month old. It can get challenging and tiring at times. There are times when I feel like we all might be better off if I gave up. Your blog is wonderful inspiration and motivation to keep going. You also give me the little chuckles and pick me ups that I sometimes need during the day. You are so real and I love that! Thank you from one busy homeschool mom to another!

  146. Jenn says:

Encouragement…from homeschooling to my faith to my marriage.

  147. Adina says:

The Busy Homeschool Mom always gives me exactly what I need at exactly the right time….whether it be words of encouragement, a schooling tip, or a much-needed laugh! I greatly appreciate this blog! Thank you!

  148. Tracye G says:

I recommend “The Busy Homeschool Mom” because it’s my number one reminder that God comes first and then my husband comes before EVERYTHING else. As homeschool moms, our families and marriages can fall apart when we get it out of order. When I first found TBHM, I was thrilled to see that putting my husband before kids was the RIGHT thing to do. Such a marriage changer! What a joy to celebrate being “That Girl” and sharing with other mom friends that they are also “THAT girl”. My husband definitely says thank you for helping me get my priorities in order! As a matter of fact, we are celebrating our marriage by taking a LONG overdue (as in over 10 years)weekend away to Teach Them Diligently in Nashville. What’s more romantic than Gaylord Opryland? Feed our marriage, feed our souls, and come back more ready to “feed” our family!

    • heidistjohn says:

  149. Holly says:

The number one reason I recommend your site is because I always find it encouraging to know that other families can see how real homeschooling is. Is so nice to have the encouragement and posts from your site! We are in our 3rd year of homeschooling and have found it quite challenging this year for many many reasons…new baby with bad colic, reflux and food sensitivities, sensory integration dysfuntion issues in our 2nd grader, life….you name it….it’s been tough! Thanks for all you do to encourage other homeschooling families!

  150. Brenda says:

I love The Busy Homeschool Mom’s status updates! They’re entertaining, encouraging, true and help me realize that I’m not alone! Thanks for doing what you do! It’s much appreciated :)

  151. Christa says:

Every busy homeschool mom NEEDS to be on your facebook page as well as your blog. I saw you at the CHOIS convention and l.o.v.e.d every word you said, so much so that I have the CD and listen to it regularly (in fact was listening 2 hours ago yet again!) ;) Heidi, you are such an encourager and I can’t recommend you highly enough! :)

  152. Anamaria says:

I recommend people read your wise words because they are encouraging on the road to homeschooling, parenting, and being a Godly wife. I also love that you and Jay are always reminding people of the awesome task that should be our priority in homeschooling: to disciple our kids! Academics matter, but not as much as spending time with our kiddos and instilling in them a love of the Lord and shaping their character! Thank you for your wise words!!!

  153. DeAnna says:

Because you give great advice and have great insight on Homeschooling, Mothering, Marriage, and life in general. Very uplifting and encouraging!!
    Thank you!

  154. Shannon Suttle says:

I first heard you last year after having only homeschooled for 1 year. It completely rocked my world! I was in a defeated state and your witty encouragement inspired me to carry on another year! I love what you post on FB and find daily encouragement in it! So, anytime I meet a new homeschoolin’ momma, I ALWAYS recommend your stuff…it speaks to the multitudes! :) Thank you!

  155. Michelle says:

Because it’s hilarious! I started following a while back after a friend shared some BHSM posts. And after a few months I was like, “The busy homeschool mom is Heidi St. John!? I saw her at a CHEA convention and I have 2 of her books!” Go figure ;) I love Heidi! She’s so down to earth and funny and I can always find some encouragement here.

  156. Christin says:

I was introduced to you last year at the NCHE conference. I have enjoyed your blog since then! You always have something to say that hits home. This being my first year homeschooling, I have enjoyed the laughter and “real” outlook you have on everything! You inspire me to be a better homeschooling mom!

  157. LISA Disselkoen says:

You were the first homeschooling blogs I found. I am so in outraged by you and if you can do it with all your kids then I can surely homeschool my 3!

  158. Karridi says:

Great Christ centered advice, encouragement, and educational ideas that are helpful whether you home school or not.

  159. Stephanie says:

Not only does your blog remind me that I’m not alone in this homeschool journey, but it reminds me that getting the curriculum done every day is not the be all end all. Character counts. I need to remember to cultivate my kids whole person as well as make time for taking care of myself, my marriage, and my husband. Thank you!

    • heidistjohn says:

Stephanie – You’ve nailed it! You’re not alone. Character counts. Cultivate relationships. Take time to take care. Love your husband. We couldn’t have said it any better.
