Hey everybody, this is Heidi St. John. Welcome to the podcast. It is episode number 903, I’ve decided to call my nine hundreds the Twilight zone episodes and today my friend Tina Griffin is back on the show with me. Stick around. I think you’re going to be encouraged.
So thanks for tuning in today everybody, I appreciate it. I know you guys have some time on your hands and we’re going to try to fill some of that up today. Before I get started, I want to update you on a little bit about what’s going on with the events that I’m speaking at. The vast majority of them, in fact, all of them for April are canceled. I don’t know yet what’s going to happen for May, we’re still obviously in prayer about that. But Teach Them Diligently where I’m supposed to be right now and next week. So Rogers, Arkansas, and Waco, Texas, those events have both been postponed for right now and I know a lot of you guys have wanted to attend to Teach Them Diligently, but you haven’t been able to. So guess what? Thank you COVID-19, now’s your chance.
With all the new restrictions that are being placed on in-person gatherings, Teach Them Diligently is bringing their convention directly to you. Everybody can join in the fun. They’re still going to have an exhibit hall for virtual shopping, great sessions. And just thank you guys, the best part of all you can shop in your pajamas. So for more information and to register, check out the link in the show notes today. I know a lot of you have been asking me questions also about homeschooling and I have recorded a series of videos, tutorials, everything from multilevel teaching, to unit studies, to kind of the how and why of homeschooling and why I think now is such a great time to jump into it. The schools are closed, so a lot of you guys are kind of on the fence. Now’s a great time to do it and you can find out more about what I’ve been up to you at learnathome.today.
All right. So before I get any further out into the culture today, I’m so stoked because a woman that I really love, Tina Griffin’s on the show with me today. I met Tina several years ago. This woman is a firecracker. She’s a former Hollywood actress and she speaks a lot about pop culture and educates parents, especially about the dangers of the modern entertainment industry and why you guys need to know what’s going on. She does a show called Hollywood Exposed, which explains the real agenda behind the entertainment industry. I love this woman. You guys are going to love her too. Welcome back to the show, Tina.
[Tina] Hey Heidi, thank you for having me on. You are a sister to me. We actually probably do go back and we realize that we are cut from the same cloth.
[Heidi] Yeah, that’s right.
[Tina] But you’re like my twin. So when we first met I’m like yes, somebody else gets it out there. Your crowd, shout out to your posse. Your parents are phenomenal. Last time I was on, the response was overwhelming more than any other show I’ve ever been on. So your parents are not only wanting to get educated, but they’re actually doing something about it and that’s very encouraging. So hi all Heidi parents that are out there tuning into the show today.
[Heidi] I love it. Well see, you’re connecting with my audience because the theme of my show here has always been #offthebench. And so, I like these parents because you’re right, they’re not bench warmers. They’re actually getting off the bench and onto the battlefield, which is really what you’re doing, which is why you and I so resonate with each other. And before we get into all the culture stuff, I told you right before the show, I really think this should be like the Twilight zone. We’re kind of living in it. Like I said to you, I think, who knew that when we set our clocks forward, we actually be setting them into the Twilight zone. Which is kind of where I feel like we are right now. How are you doing in a quarantine land over there in Tennessee?
[Tina] Well, it’s really tough to be in quarantine. I know you’re a lot like me, it’s like if we’re not on a plane speaking somewhere about every 10 and a half days, our husbands are kicking us out of the house. So it’s been really hard. I had to cancel a couple of flights coming up for different speaking events last night and my rental car, one was actually a convertible in Orlando. I’m like seriously, I was going to show up in a convertable…
[Heidi] Oh, come on.
[Tina] …to the ocean there what’s going on with celebrities. But you know at the same time being in quarantine, we have this chance to bond with our kids, like you and I were talking about earlier and it’s made me just refocus. I actually started the Hollywood Insider show up again, so it’s causing me to actually focus on other projects that, because there’s a lack of distraction and so that’s been good. But my luck, Heidi, if I would go to a crowd of 2000 I’d be just fine. If I hide in my closet, I get the virus. And so a part of me is like, should I still just go out there and do my thing? Like usually fear does not hold me in my house. But I canceled the event.
[Heidi] That will do it.
[Tina] Yes. It’s just been a wild three weeks. I went from thinking we’re just going to be fine, the very next day we’re all going to die, the next day nope, God has this, the rapture’s going to happen tomorrow. To the next day thinking I don’t want to go yet, Lord. I got too many things I want to do with my life. It’s been like a roller coaster and I’ve been sick for three weeks as in I want to just get off the ride.
[Heidi] Yeah. No, I think so too. And honestly, for people who are introverts are kind of loving this, and I feel like in some respects the introvert part of me does love it, but unfortunately, like I was just telling you a couple of minutes ago, I’ve been recording videos every day for the past week and I actually want to do the real quarantine thing. So I think I might like, after today I have a few days that I don’t have to record videos for people. And so I’m thinking, you know what, I’m going to do the quarantine thing. I’m going to hang out in my pajamas all day long and just not put my makeup on and scare my neighbors and things like that. It’ll be fun.
[Tina] It will be really fun. You get to get some video footage of that. The other funny thing about this extra time on our hands, people have been blowing up my phone. I know your phone also has been blown up thinking, I’m in D3 and I lost half my hair. I don’t know if I can do this quarantine thing for a month, let alone two months. How do you guys do it? Because I’m not going to make it, like I have to actually parent my children. What am I going to do?
[Tina] And there’s this video, did you see this video going round? This black guy, is probably mid 40s and he’s looking out his window and he’s like, “To all you teachers out there, all you teachers, over the years that I said I’m going to get you some pencils, I never got you guys pencils and you told me just come talk to my kids because they’re just causing havoc in the class. I’ve schooled my kids for three hours, I’m not going to make it. I’m so sorry. Education system, teachers out there, I’m so sorry.” And he goes on and on, and I was laughing so hard. I’m like this dude was having a heart attack for three minutes apologizing to all the teachers in America that have to deal with 20 children in a classroom at once.
[Tina] And I think we got … Like how do we lower the panic for parents to let them know there is blessing in all this and you will make it when some days I don’t think I’m going to make it.
[Heidi] Oh, I know. And I do think it’s important. I’ve heard people say, well, welcome to homeschooling. I’m like, ah, no, this is not homeschooling. Homeschoolers are not used to being quarantined in their home, we’re everywhere. We’re at the zoos, we’re at the museums. We’re doing homeschool co-ops, we’re hanging out with our friends. We’re meeting up for lunch. This quarantine thing is not … Like I just want to tell everybody who thinks, oh my goodness, this is homeschooling. No, it’s not.
[Tina] It’s not.
[Heidi] Homeschooling is a lot more fun than this. This is, I mean, kind of a, I’m definitely seeing differences in my kids. Like I asked my 14 year old daughter this morning, I said, “Hey Sydney, how are you doing with the quarantine thing?” She’s like, “I love it.” She’s like, “I love it, mom. I’m getting more time with you.” I’ve given my kids every day, because I’ve got a bunch of kids still at home.
[Heidi] So I’ve got four of them at home and three of them out on their own and I’m giving my kids, every night they get to choose, a different kid gets to choose what we have for dinner and then I make the dinner with them.
[Tina] I love it.
[Heidi] So Sydney wanted to do runza and I was like, are you sure? Because that means I got to, it’s homemade bread, you got to make the bread, then you got to do the filling. And she’s like, “No mom, it’s my favorite dinner that you’ve ever made.” So we did that yesterday and that part of it was pretty … I did in between making videos. So like I do a video, then I throw my apron on and I teach her how to make dough and we do the dough. And then when the dough is rising, I do another video. So I still can’t do it in my pajamas, so hopefully maybe next week I will. Who knows.
[Tina] It’s a lot. It’s so a lot. And then the parents tuning in too, I don’t even know where to start with this topic, but I’ve always done research, like news behind the news. Okay, coronavirus is happening, so to speak. And we know, I believe it’s dangerous, but it’s not as … We have a big country, there are millions of people who live in America and so do we live locked up in our homes, like you don’t want to be disobedient. But then we see beach goers going to California and Florida not canceling their beach plans. And I’m like, hang on a second, I’m stuck being quarantined and you guys get to go party it up. Then you come home from your beach, we’re released from quarantine and then I still end up getting the virus.
[Tina] So I’m like, this is my luck so I’m like, that’s it. So it’s like what is really going on too because I have been hearing a lot about behind the scenes in Hollywood and celebrities and I’ve been, as a casting intern for a woman at Universal Studios 20 years ago. So I started hearing stuff when I first moved to LA 20 years ago, not just the graphic content kids are watching and listening to today. Much of it parents aren’t aware, which is what my main platform is.
[Heidi] This conversation could go kind of deep and a little dicey. So if you’ve got kids listening to this right now, you might want to just turn it off and come back later on tonight because I told Tina before we got on here, because what we really want to do too is talk to you guys about a lot of the free tech that’s being offered to you right now to sort of help pass the time. I want to encourage you please for the love, do not spend this quarantine time, which I’d like to see become a blessing to you with your head in your computer and your kids on the screens all the time. There are some obviously really great opportunities with the tech that’s being offered and we’ll talk about that.
But love on your kids, this is a great time to like cook with your kids. Take a walk with your kids, paint with your kids, tons of stuff you can do together online that’s interactive, which I really like. But Tina and I really want to talk about some of the stuff that’s going on behind the scenes. And so, if you’ve got kids who are listening to this today, even maybe you’re young teens, who you don’t want them necessarily hearing all the garbage behind the apps that they like, this might be a good time for you just to turn it off and come back a little bit later.
So, Tina, let’s jump into this. First, let’s talk for just a minute because I know there’s some moms trying to figure out how to turn this off. Let’s talk for just a minute about the free tech because there’s some really cool things actually out there for parents. A lot of these big companies have lowered the paywall. So things that you would normally have to pay for are free right now, so what are some of the resources that you’ve seen that are out there right now?
[Tina] Absolutely. And on my Counter Culture Mom App, there’s a lot of great pop culture alerts. You’re on the app as well, so they can get your content right on there, but if you download Counter Culture Mom App there, the last five or six alerts in the last week are all about ideas that parents can do with their kids at home. Some is tech-related, where it might be a TV show or a series like VidAngel right now is offering free service, streaming service even for their Chosen series that just came out, which is phenomenal. It’s getting rave reviews, where you can watch it as same as your teen.
[Heidi] Oh, that’s awesome. I did not know that. I’m writing that down, I haven’t seen it yet.
[Tina] Me neither, I saw the first couple episodes. They’re phenomenal. I did not go through all of it yet, but first episode, just a FYI here, if you have younger kids, younger than 10 I’d say you might want to skip a couple of scenes in there just because it’s setting up the stage for the whole entire series. The rest of it is completely clean as far as the violence type thing.
[Heidi] Tell them what it’s about, because there are a lot of people going Chosen, what’s that?
[Tina] It’s the whole story of Christ and Dallas Jenkins, I know him. I actually met him a couple times at the National Religious Broadcasters event. He put this together and has been working for several years to get all the funding for it. But he goes through the series of the life of Christ and it brings it to life like a Jesus portrayed throughout Scripture. And it shows very detailed scenes of where he was and his preaching, the whole entire story of Christ basically.
[Heidi] And it’s very well done. I mean, from what…
[Tina] It’s very well done.
[Heidi] They sent me some episodes to review, so I’ve seen a little bit of it and it’s just … Sometimes people go, oh, it’s a Christian movie. I mean, my friend Sam Sorbo, she and Kevin have been doing awesome Christian films. There has been, I mean in the last what? Probably 10 years, we’ve seen the Christian film industry start to really raise the bar and do great. And this kind of falls into that category I think.
[Tina] Absolutely. And on December 17th is when I blasted out the alert through my Counter Culture Mom App, our team put this together. The neat thing about this whole VidAngel Chosen series, is as the first ever worldwide launch of a streaming TV series via its own app. It has its own app Heidi, it’s phenomenal. It’s being streamed right now in 142 countries, translated in 52 languages. It’s the number one crowd funded entertainment project in history and the first ever multi-season TV show about Jesus. And the neat thing about it is the people, we, the people funded this project, that is phenomenal, that like has never happened before at this scale.
So that’s one show, one series that is what Trudy, who’s on my team, basically told me it’s a binge worthy show that not a lot of shorts today are binge worthy. That’s a great show to watch with your kids. A fun, interactive, eye-opening journey where the whole family can watch it together. Once again, the first episode I just, a couple of scenes you want to fast forward for 10 and under, but that’s just one thing through VidAngel they have a 14 day free signup deal and I just put that on my Counter Culture Mom App, they can download that. Parents you can find that info about VidAngel for free. Also, we just blasted out a free online activities and events for kids from Common Sense Media, a huge list they put together that we just blasted out two days ago on our app.
[Tina] I do want to do a warning to parents. I am even more strict than Common Sense Media, they are not a Christian based company. I’d say 80% of the time they have it right, 20% of the time they’ll endorse something wrong like nope, that’s not good for anybody to watch.
[Heidi] That’s good to know.
[Tina] Yeah. With caution, but overall the list that we put up there, sharing from them has a lot of great activities, not only online, different games, different interactive things online but also outside activities, which is huge. Yes, social distancing. But my kids are still playing with other kids in the street doing basketball, riding bikes, spring is in the air now where we live in Nashville. So quarantine, it’s like, I don’t want to be in big crowds, but also the kids would go nuts if they were in the house all day.
[Tina] And then Minno is church at home that we just blasted out Heidi, and that one’s phenomenal. It’s a faith based streaming app that’s offering free church at home activities for families. It used to be called jelly tales, JellyTelly.
[Tina] JellyTelly, and they now got renamed to Minno and I’ve info on the app as well for that. The materials around there for kids and parents, so it’s like a big Bible study online that’s fun and interactive as well. Free devotionals, access to classic Veggie Tales, other Facebook education entertainment. That’s for younger kids, but besides VidAngel we have Pure Flix, Crossflix and other positive entertainment sources all on the Counter Culture Mom App in the last week, you’ll see them right away. Along with I am Patrick DVD, which because the theaters are closed down around the country, they released this on St. Patrick’s Day. They made it available for 15 bucks to download and watch their movie and you can see that information right through our app as far as where you have to go to download it and watch it. And it’s a very cool hour and a half story about St. Patrick. Who he was, what he did and I never knew half that stuff that I watched in there. So, great documentary for parents to also watch with the kids if they want to go watch some positive entertainment.
[Heidi] The new Jeremy Camp movie is out now too, right? It was supposed to be in theaters, but now we can’t go to theaters and I’m pretty sure Lionsgate went ahead and released it. Have you heard about that?
[Tina] Yes, they did release it. In my app I think we updated that. If not, I’m looking at it right now, it will be updated by the time your parents get this, so parents check out Counter Culture Mom, we just did an alert for Jeremy Camp story. It is phenomenal Heidi. I went to the…
[Heidi] Oh man.
[Tina] Did you watch?
[Heidi] Yeah, they sent it to me and I loved it. I will say this, I cried through like most of it, very depressing. I was like, I remember I looked over at my 14 year old daughter, I was like, “When is this going to get better?” And then it does.
[Tina] But it does and the ending was so good. The second I saw that woman coming over to talk to him at the end and she turned her back, I don’t want to bust it for the people that, wreck it for the people that didn’t see the movie yet. I’m like, isn’t it interesting Heidi, how God brings small little details that lets you know that he cares about you. He wants to let you know what path you should be on. It’s just small little stuff that we see all the time if we’re following what he wants us to do and where we’re supposed to go. It’s neat how he met his second wife. I just loved it.
[Heidi] Yeah, it’s an amazing story. There’s a lot of really awesome opportunities right now for parents to engage in positive media with their kids. And I’m always telling parents, watch these things with your kids. How about instead of you put your kids in front of the TV for six hours, I mean, I don’t care if … Like I know too, Answers in Genesis, if parents haven’t found this yet. Answers in Genesis has an awesome section just for kids. I mean videos, all kinds of awesome things. You can find that in answersingenesis.org/kids, fantastic stuff. But I want to caution parents away from just having these be the babysitters for your kids, I think we’ve kind of fallen into that in the culture. Absolutely. I mean, that’s what we do when we send our kids to school, right? Just somebody else babysits them. We go to church, the parents go to big people church, they send their kids down to junior high or whatever.
And man, I just think we’ve got an awesome opportunity to start behaving like families instead of behaving like we’re segregated. Everybody’s segregated by age and we’ve got different people that watch our kids depending on the ages that they are. So this is an opportunity, I think, for parents to engage in what’s going on. You have an awesome background in understanding what’s happening in Hollywood. You and I have talked about this before and it’s shocking to me. There’s a whole lot of things out there like the apps, and maybe you can give just a couple of apps that you tell parents, hey, go look and make sure these kids do not have this on their phones. I’d kind of like to start there and then let’s move into some of the darker sides of the entertainment industry because it’s not just, and there’s a movie Onward. I’d love to talk about that with you.
I’ve had a lot of people asking me questions about that here at the podcast. The new movie that has the first openly lesbian character in the cartoon. And a lot of parents are saying, does it matter? Absolutely, it matters. Of course, it matters, right? We’re normalizing this to children. That’s the whole point of them putting this stuff in cartoons. But let’s start with talking about a little bit of your history and what are the apps that parents may not know that their kids have downloaded that you know for sure are dangerous and parents need to man up and say, “Hey kids, I love you. Hand me your phone so I can see what’s on it,” and then be the parent. Right? So let’s talk about that for just a minute.
[Tina] Yes, well, bullet point form here. I was a farm kid in Wisconsin, gave my life to the Lord at 16, and within a week I got a very interesting VHS copy. I’m dating myself here, from an older gentleman. He was like in his 80s, and he said, “I saw you walk up and give your life to the Lord last Sunday. God really wants me to give you this.” And it was Clinton Chronicles. I’m like, what? So I watched that and God, I’m like, you know what Lord, you’re telling me right off the bat that am I going to be an FBI agent? I mean, what is this? And I just had this sense of I did not want to be a benchwarmer Christian, I wanted to be alert, alive, awake. And so I started researching politics and entertainment at 16, shortly after I became a believer.
And then when I was 20, I transferred from the University of Wisconsin Green Bay to Cal State, Los Angeles and got a film in television broadcast degree two years later. But the first week or two that I moved out to LA, I started working on set already. I probably had 25, 30 agencies that I work with. So I did runway modeling, I did Disney TV shows, I did soap operas, movies galore. And God just opened my eyes to who is behind Hollywood, what are they trying to promote? Satan of course, is a ruler of the airwaves right now until Christ comes back. So it was so interesting for me how God opened my eyes to how powerful media and entertainment really is.
And then after the four years of that, I did the miss America pageant. I started speaking about these topics and here we are 18 years later, still talking about pop culture and media influence because I think it’s so key. I think our kids worldviews are shaped by what they ingest on a daily basis, whether it be friends, apps, TV shows, series, movies, magazines, all of it, video games. And that shapes who they are, what they believe, and what they become .
[Heidi] Absolutely. And it’s not like it was when we were … I feel like when we were kids, I’m 50 now and so I look back at the cartoons I watched when I was growing up, Scooby-Doo and whatever, Roadrunner, Wile E. Coyote, and really we did that when we got home from school and our parents sat us in front of it and parents cannot do that anymore.
[Tina] They can’t.
[Heidi] They really can’t. And there’s a lot of reasons for that. But some of the main reasons are these people are actually targeting your children and their intentions are not good.
[Tina] They’re not good. Now the apps, I have a lot of info about apps, but I will tell you Heidi, I am not the app queen. I’m great when it comes to video games, TV shows and movies, but I have a lot of app information on my website. So we’ve had guest bloggers that are educators that speak out about certain apps because they are helping me stay up to date because it changes that fast. So if parents want to go onto our website, counterculturemom.com, there’s a search bar at the top. All you have to do is type in the word apps, there’s also tagging we’ve done, and you will come up with 30 recent blogs, at least articles in the last three months or four months to help parents stay aware of what’s going on. I mean, there’s dangers of decoy apps, decoy apps that a lot of kids have in their phone. They promote risky behavior.
So a lot of times when kids add one of these apps and there are countless apps that are out there, they would put sketchy pictures, pornography type shots in there, send it to their friends. And within seconds Heidi, it’s gone. The receiver gets the info, the parents can’t track who sent it or who sent their kid one of these shots. And the problem is screenshots are taken, your kid might send something risque and now it’s on the internet from the receiver.
[Tina] Yeah forever. And they make it really crafty and same with the calculator. There’s a fraudulent calculator app that is out there. So, we have information about the calculator app on our website. You think it’s a regular calculator app and if your kid’s got the fraudulent one on there, which we go through the whole series in the blog explaining what things you have to look for, they can be hiding photo albums in this app and it’s not a calculator app and these … It’s like someone has to get sued here because there are laws out there to protect our kids and yet when you have even Pinterest and Instagram blasting out these ads for these very dangerous apps, someone needs to be held accountable because we can’t keep up to all this.
[Heidi] No, we can’t. This is a really rough time to be parenting in the digital age because there’s no way, I mean, our kids have access to so much stuff all the time and things that we think are innocent. Pinterest, it’s actually not anymore. I don’t let my kids just go on Pinterest anymore because these pop up ads come up there. I had a parent email me several months ago when we were talking about social media and she said, “Well, Instagram is fine.” No, it’s not.
[Tina] It’s not.
[Heidi] Like if you, I mean, I obviously, I’m not going to give names, but if you just think of an awful thing and add a hashtag to it and that’s really all your kid has to do to find videos and all kinds of horrible stuff on the social media platforms and parents need to be aware.
[Tina] That’s exactly it. And even for Instagram, there was, one of my friends, Stephanie out in California, went on Facebook live two nights ago and I was, I should have been in bed at midnight, but here I was doing research on celebrity and times type stuff and how it’s all going to go down. And I like end time prophecy, I’ve always been like, I read five hours a Revelation on Sunday. Luke read, my husband read three hours with me, discussed it. My son who’s 11 said I want to read Revelation. He read an hour, it didn’t even phase him. He was talking about the plagues and he’s like, “Look at this plague.” I’m like, “Dude, this is not cool. What your reading is scary.” And he’s like digging in deep and sharing about it.
But I just always liked the end time stuff and I’d see the stage set Heidi, I cannot believe, I’m not saying the rapture is going to happen next week, but I think it’s pertinent because, and I’ve been seeing it for years, so I’ve been seeing it for 18 years. That Christ’s right on the corner, but it hasn’t been as urgent in my soul until January when I spoke to this Activate 2020, and oh, I just got chills right now talking about it. And I was on stage saying Christ is right around the corner. I think I see him in the distance. Like it’s that close and so, why is Satan attacking our kids? Because he knows he has little time left. And that’s why he’s attacking … We used to have one or two bad shows when you and I were kids. Now 90% of the junk on Netflix is, which is being hired to work on set along with the actors to make sure the scene comes out light.
[Heidi] We’ve finally bit the bullet and canceled Netflix. It’s been several months that we did that. We’ve had it forever. I mean, since they started and they used to send you a CD or DVDs in the mail, remember that? And then they moved to the digital age and it’s convenient, whatever, but the stuff that is on there is absolutely horrific and one of the moms, maybe you can speak to this. A mom said to me the other day, she’s like, “You know Heidi, you can’t hide from everything.? Because I told her, she said, “Do you still not go to Target?” And I was like, “Are you kidding me? I haven’t been to Target in years.” I do miss it though. I will say, I miss it, but I’m so sorry if I have a choice I’m not going to promote a company. I’m not going to spend my money at a company that I know is going to put children at risk. Which is exactly what Target does.
And in their promotion of transgenderism through the articles that they have published out there on why toys should be gender neutral because is gender’s fluid and all this garbage. Well, I’m so sorry, Target. I super love your clothes, oh my goodness. And I really miss shopping there, so I’m not saying I don’t like Target. I’m saying, I am not going to spend my money to promote a company that is dead set on hurting children. And really that’s what Netflix is doing also.
[Tina] Yeah, they definitely are. And there’s a lot of companies that are out there that are ones you want to steer clear from. In fact, on my website also, I’ve information that’s entitled dirty dozen and I’ll constantly keep that updated with the list of the top 12 companies in our country that are anti-family. They’re pro-abortion. They want to strip away gun rights, they’re against Christians. They’re homosexual agenda, all of it. And so there’s 12 of these dirty dozen companies that we really should not and more, but really should not be promoting and spending our cash in. And it’s so tough to keep up to date with all this stuff, but really all we’re doing is what you said, adding more cash to their back pocket where they can pump out more junk that is literally harming our kids, which is causing our kids to backtalk, to feel depressed, suicidal, cutting, low self esteem, all of it. And then we have to deal with it and then we’re taking our kids to a counselor. So it’s like, why support something that’s going to actually hurt us in the long run?
[Heidi] So when you talk to parents about what’s happening in the culture and you’ve got kids of your own, right? I mean, you have got four kids?
[Tina] Four kids, 11, 9, 8, and 6.
[Heidi] And so you’re like, you’re in the throes of the parenting thing. How do parents protect their children from coming across this stuff? I mean, I’m thinking your are going to say hello, the key is engagement. No, what’s going on with your kids? How can we keep our kids safe from these people?
[Tina] The biggest thing is that you pray over your kids and pray with your kids. And I’m going to go a couple steps deeper here just because I’ve been involved with the pop culture level. It is pertinent you know exactly what kids are watching and listening to because it’s not just, Lady Gaga is a part of this, I’ve been exposing her for five to six years about what she’s involved with, with these blood rituals. And if kids are listening to Lady Gaga, it’s not just the graphic gross sex saturated, I love Judas lyrics and her lyrics that is teaching our kids to love satanic activity. And I mean literally blatantly loving satanic activity. I’m not trying to make this a bigger deal than what it is, it’s that big. It’s also the person that these children are idolizing that are influencing them with the demonic realm.
If you go to that Lady Gaga’s Instagram, I mean, just do the research on these people, it’ll blow your mind what she posts. She says she’s demon possessed. Beyonce says she’s demon possessed. So it’s these celebrities themselves that are influencing our children. Yes, even millions of Christian kids in these homes where these kids are idolizing celebrities that are promoting satanic stuff. And that’s what really, really grips my heart. So here’s a case in point. My 11 year old kid, Jake, had the window open today, we want to get some fresh air in the house, quarantine, even the air is starting to get nasty. So he’s like, “That’s it, I’m going to open some windows.” I’m like, “Great.” Well he sticks his head out one of the windows, runs to me and says, “Mom, our neighbor is listening to Lady Gaga and there’s 10 kids on the street listening in with her.”
And of course, we’re going to go talk to our neighbor politely, nicely. She’s a complete opposite of me. She knows I’m a fanatic with this exposing business. But we’ve had some great conversations, but it goes to show that kids are alert. My kids know what I talk about. They know what Lady Gaga is somewhat into. They have not seen graphic pictures, but I fill them in, “Hey, we got to pray for Lady Gaga. Here’s what’s going on.” So they aren’t in a bubble. I think it’s important that our parents, that we as parents talk to our kids about what is going on in our culture because when they are out of our house, they will be world changers and not succumb to the evil stuff that Satan is doing to rip our kids from underneath our homes and underneath of who Christ is and the foundation we’ve created for 18 years.
A lot of parents today do shelter too much and that’s all we want to do. But it’s a wise balance of teaching the word of God, which is critical, getting in the word of God and then comparing what God says to what is going on in our culture today. So our kids can recognize when they’re being duped or deceived, and my kids get it. Not that they’re perfect, sometimes they totally fall into the trap, but I want them to realize, wait a second, they’re trying to dupe me here, deceive me or look at this ad or look at this magazine spread or look at that billboard mom. They see it. And I want them to see it and then recognize it for what it is.
[Heidi] Well, and you’re having conversations with your kids. I think that’s probably the most important thing that parents can do is not to run away from these conversations, but to have them.
[Tina] Yup. And then my problem is Heidi, I’ll be so engaged with exposing this stuff. Ephesians 5:11, man, expose the unfruitful works of darkness and steer clear from it. Well, I love that. That is like what makes my blood pump where I’m glad that I have you and call us other amazing Christian women on my side pumping Bible verses, yes, but we win in the end. Yes, but God is full of peace and patience and joy. So I have to make sure that yes, we need to expose but also stay in the joyful side of stuff too, the peace and the fact that God has this. Like he wins in the end, it’s his battle. He’s giving us the eyes to see in these end times. And I know it’s going to be pretty wild these upcoming months and years living in America and living on the earth because of what Satan’s going to try to do to deceive.
The mark of the beast is going to come out. The one world money system is going to come out, the 10 leaders with a new world order. All of it talked about in Revelation and the crazy thing is its already making news headlines. And so we have to be in the word, so we know not to be deceived and fall trap to Satan’s tactics.
[Heidi] No, that’s right. And we don’t have to be afraid. And I guess I want to just remind parents that we are who God says we are, that we are His chosen people, that He loves us, that he’s caring for us. The Bible says that there won’t be a time when … I love that the Bible says in Proverbs that, “He’d never seen the righteous fall.” And God sees what’s happening and He cares about our kids and he cares about us. And we don’t need to live in fear. We want to be aware of what’s happening around us, but we don’t want to be afraid and living in fear. And so, I want to give parents some really good options too. So I’m thinking about your kids and sort of my kids and what they listen to, what are some things that you love for your kids to listen to that you go, hey, this is actually cool and I don’t have to monitor it?
[Tina] Yes. Well, the biggest thing is that when we have been, we have been traveling and speaking, of course, they get to hear a lot of bands that play. So they’re in love with Jeremy Camp. Of course, the movie just came out. We were going to a church, it was 50 minutes away where Jeremy Camp actually was. So they thought it was so neat that he was up there on stage. We have Danny Gokey, they love Danny Gokey. I really watch what they’re all into, K-Love, excellent options for the kids to listen to. And they don’t listen to a ton of music. They do listen to some, but they’re really into games. And I wanted to share with your audience Heidi, this really cool game that we just got in the mail a week ago. The kids are in love with it. And Pokemon, I totally warn about Pokemon. I think about a year or two ago, you can look at that info on counterculturemom.com about how those trading cards are not wise for the family. You’re idolizing the wrong things.
There’s a lot of dark demonic forces coming through Pokemon as well. And I explained that too in that article, but for something positive, they got these games, this game called animal games and it’s a trading card game in the mail. Theresa Wagner was a guest, I’m going to have it on my YouTube channel, Counter Culture Mom, watch that 30 minute program. It’s up there now when you’re listening to this. Where she talks about this trading card game, a lot of kids love trading cards and there’s scripture on it. There’s, half the cards have sins that we have to watch out for and steer clear from. And if we have them, she has the other half of the deck is virtuous cards and how to combat the sin. And so it’s a really fun way. Parents, I mean, I look at the cards and I want to play the game.
Where parents can play with their kids in a fun, interactive way to get scripture in the homes. So we love games like that. There’s also an Apples to Apples Bible version that’s out there, a board game. Kids love it, it has scripture on it. You’re finding out more about the Lord through a fun interactive card game like the Apples to Apples Bible version. And that’s also on my website. So there’s a lot of neat things that we can do and get involved with. The video games, I’m very careful. If it’s Wii games, I make sure that the video games are clean. I watch the games first. If there’s anything ever that ever gets through my monitoring system of me, my oldest son will come and say, “Hey mom, this is kind of a question,” we’ll see and what do you think? I’ll watch it, I’m like, “You know what? It’s not bad, but it could be better. So yes, let’s ditch the game.” I’d rather err on the side of caution.
[Heidi] Yeah, that’s right.
[Tina] For parents out there, I have a guide that has thousands of positive entertainment options on it. I mean, thousands from free month services to Pure Flix. And like we talked about earlier, VidAngel, Crossflix. We have hundreds of positive video games that are fully a hundred percent sure way. If they play it, you’re safe. There’s no chat features where pedophiles are going to get attached to your kids and start making them send pictures and sketchy stuff, and they get that guide by texting the word guide, GUIDE to the number 55444. So text the word guide through your phone to the number 55444, and then you’ll get a response saying, what’s your email? You give your email and then it’ll go straight to our inbox where we send out to you guys immediately that four-page PDF entertainment guide having tons of different things. Even positive comedians that are on there, there’s a lot of positive out there.
The secular media is not going to share it, because they want to make the mighty dollar. And it’s not cheesy entertainment either. We had cheesy stuff growing up as kids. This is really fun stuff that parents love and they want to know that their kids can watch it for an hour, they can fold laundry and they’re not going to see something that they’re going to have nightmares over.
[Heidi] Well, I’m encouraged. Every time I talk to you, I’m encouraged. And today’s no different. So for everybody who wants to find out more about you, they can visit you at counterculturemom.com, right? And the download, the Counter Culture Mom, how do they do that?
[Tina] Yes. Google Play store or of course you got iTunes store, just type in Counter Culture Mom, punch in that, you’ll see our logo Counter Culture Mom and download that for sure. Say yes when it asks you if you want to get notifications because then your phone will dang when we have an urgent alert of something awesome you got to get your hands on, or something you want to run from. Because our main goal is put the power back in the parents’ hands and not let Hollywood dictate what our kids succumb to, but we get to decide if this is good or not for our kids. In the Counter Culture Mom app, I just want to stress once here, if you see something we need to be aware of, a lot of our info comes from parents that care. They’re aware.
Just click on the, inform us button on our app and send us a quick text, a video or a picture, and then we will grab that, send it off to the team and then they blast it out to the masses who have our app. And then of course we have the Counter Culture Mom website. And then if people want to partner with our ministry, every dollar is matched right now as well. If they want to do that, they can text the word donate, DONATE to the number 55444 and you can give, and it’s a tax write-off. We’re a non-profit and that dollar is doubled and it’ll allow us to hire more people, which right now we need about three more people we have to hire for what we’re doing. So those are the top ways to keep in touch with what we’re working on.
[Heidi] I love it. And also, I think I love it that you’re having parents get ahold of you and just say what they see. People do this with me all the time too. And I just, I was thinking about this because a mom who had her kid, I think they’re in the Seattle school district, but she’s in the Seattle school district and she sent me a screenshot of the, they call it healthy, I think its healthy choices for kids or whatever it is, whatever their sex ed program is there and they are telling kids how to have safe sex during the coronavirus. And it was disgusting. It really was. And this mom was like, she said, “I had no idea that my child was even subscribed to this, but it came from the school district.”
She’s like, I just figured that my kids get stuff from the school district, it’s going to be fine. Obviously it wasn’t fine. And so I just want parents to be aware. We’ve got to be watching out for our kids and stay in touch with what they are hearing even from their schools. So if your kids can basically given, they’re given a number to text to get the sort of sex education info from their public school. She said she signed up then after that, as a 12 year old. So she gets the texts all the time.
[Tina] So smart.
[Heidi] And it’s called sexual health in a time of social distancing. So they’re talking to 12 year old kids who they say need to have sex. It’s just, it’s crazy to me, but I love this mom because she was able to do it and she said, “Hey, can you let people know that they text …” I think that the kids were texting the word hookup to, I think it’s 877877. But if parents do that, then parents can see what’s coming to their kids and what’s coming to kids in general and parents need to know this stuff. I have parents say to me, I keep my kids safe, I’m not worried about it. Boy, we better be worried. We better see what’s happening. And the way to do that is to just get involved and let people know this is actually happening, which is what you’re doing, Tina, and I’m so thankful for your ministry. I want to just say it’s been a really great joy to have you here during the Twilight zone of the United States.
[Tina] Heidi, I love you so much. I really do. We’ve what, face to face a half a dozen times but I feel like I’ve known you for two decades and you nailed it right now. You nailed it with, we have to be diligent in knowing what’s bombarding our kids. We have to become the FBI agents in this day and age, but also the craftiness of that mom to pretend she’s a 12 year old girl. We’re going to have a guest on soon, same thing, where this mom goes on lying and signs up for Snapchat. One of those apps, I’m going to have her on, we’re going to talk about it. Where within less than a minute she went on as an 11 year old girl and in less than a minute she had 90 or a hundred different guys asking for these pictures of her being naked.
[Heidi] That is just crazy.
[Tina] In under a minute.
[Heidi] It’s crazy.
[Tina] So we have to be diligent. And the biggest thing is quarantine, I just want to challenge your parents, parents ask God what mission he wants you on. Because yes, we have to be diligent for our own kids, but there’s a lot of parents that aren’t aware or don’t care. So what platform, what ministry can God birth during the quarantine period of the message and the content he wants you to get and you to give to wake up the masses. And God wants to use each and every one of us in different capacities and it takes all of us. And if everyone did one big thing for God, this world would completely be a different place, which I know is possible.
[Heidi] Yeah, that’s absolutely right. It’s time for parents really to engage, get off the bench and onto the battlefield. And thank you so much for being at the front lines of this and I’m excited to see what God does with you in 2020. I think we’re making good use of the quarantine. So spend some time with your kids everybody and check out the Counter Culture Mom and download her app. You guys are going to be so blessed that you did. Tina Griffin, thank you so much for joining me today.
[Tina] Thank you so much. Let’s enjoy every minute we got before the rapture.
[Heidi] Absolutely. For more information … But I’m going to get a shirt. It’s going to say rapture ready. You watch, I’m going to do it girl.
[Tina] Yes, I want one of those.
[Heidi] You’ll be the first one.
[Tina] I want one of those.
[Heidi] You’ll be the first one. All right. For more information on Tina Griffin and her ministry of parents, visit her online at counterculturemom.com.
