Got Teens? It’s the Little Things

-from a Facebook post I wrote this week-

When I was thirteen years old, these were the “must have” shoes for almost every girl I knew. I wanted them, too. I’ll never forget getting a pair from my mom. It was unusual for her to “splurge” on such a thing for me, as I was one of seven children—but looking back, I get it. She was letting me know that I mattered to her. Right down to my shoes. 🙂

I came across this image today and it reminded me to put myself in the “shoes” of my teens. Sometimes, we need to look at life through the eyes of our kids. What seems important to them right now will likely not be important at all in a few years … but the “messages” we send them every day by our attitudes and actions toward them will make a lifetime impression.

This reminds me so much of my mom! She has frequently surprised me with little splurges that I never realized she knew I wanted. It taught me to really KNOW my loved ones and learn their love language and needs!!

I have two little guys and won’t start our official “homeschooling” until the fall, but after finding your blog I realized that right now I am homeschooling my boys at 4 and 20 months because they learn more from my husband and I than just book stuff…they learn from us how to have relationship with Jesus and others around them, they learn how to love and give and care for others from us as well as so many other things! Your words and obedience have helped me to to listen closer to the calling of the Lord on my life and to take each day and make it special! Thank you for being obedient to the Lord and for doing what you do!
