It’s Monday!  Here we go—ready or not!  I hope you had a restful weekend.  We’ve been in a torrential rain storm now for four days straight.  I’m hoping the week gets sunnier.  I’m glad God’s mercies don’t change like the weather.

Lamentations 3:22-23 “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Something that I learned a long time ago from my grandmother was the benefit of writing in my Bible. I used to think that the Bible was this book that we were supposed to handle very carefully and not write in it, until I saw my grandmother writing in her Bible.  She wrote in the margins and she underlined things and boxed things, and when highlighters came out, she became a highlighting fanatic and she highlighted everything!

Years later, after she was no longer able to write in her Bible, I had the privilege of reading the notes that she had left in her Bible.  So, I want to encourage you to write in your Bible, busy mom! I like to put the date next to a passage I’m reading—I might underline a verse or two, or sometimes I write short notes in the margins; key words that jump out at me or things the Lord spoke to me while I was reading.

I was thinking about this passage in Lamentations the other day in the quiet of my house.  Some of you may have heard me say that I have been trying (with some degree of success) to get up early in the morning and spend time with the Lord before my day gets away from me.  I don’t know about you, but once our kids are up, it’s pretty much over for me 🙂 I’m crockpots and curriculum until evening.  As a result, those first few moments in the morning have become very precious to me, to the point where I love to get up fairly early and just spend some time on my face before the Lord.

The seasons are changing. I’ve loved the summer months especially for my quiet time, because I can sit outside on my deck and watch the squirrels playing and enjoy the quiet of nature.  Today, I am in my fuzzy slippers on my couch, and I know it won’t be long before I’ll be coming down to sit in front of the fireplace. I was thinking about seasons today, and how they change—not only in nature, but in our friendships and with our children.  As I thought about this, it reminded me how thankful I am that in a world that is constantly changing, God never changes.  The Bible says that God is the same yesterday, today and forever.

My husband and I have experienced many changes in our 25 years of marriage.  We’ve seen a lot of ups and downs over the years and it’s been a learning, humbling experience. I thought I knew a lot when I was younger… you too?  The older the I get, the more I realize how much I still have to learn about God. I’m just so grateful that the Lord loves me and that I can trust in His unchanging nature.

Busy mom, you can trust in His unchanging nature, too. You can trust God’s heart toward you. When you read this passage, tuck the the prophet Jeremiah says about God’s unchanging nature deep in your heart. Remember that God will see you through whatever you’re facing.  His mercies are new for you right now, and if you hang on tight to Him, in every season of life that you go through, He will get you through it.
